I don't think the blinkers in the headlamps are legal...
as they are NOT original.... and very hard to see with the headlamps on... daytime or night...

Do some research and speak to an engineer before you post,
Don't just say what you think should or shouldn't be allowed as you are just misleading what people can or can't do.

As I said earlier, it's what the engineer passes that counts at the end of the day.......

to back lee up when walking across the road LEGALLY right near a roundabout where i live i have gone to walk out in front of a car turning as i have not seen their indicator that was on when it was on the inside. i stopped and quickly took a step back onto the foot path again but it was only when they were coming towards me that i had seen their indicator. lees son might not be as stupid as you guys might be thinking, personally i would never buy a car like this as it IS dangerous, but hey if you like it buy it.

In case your wondering L group are 2 & 3 wheeled vehicles. M group are passanger vehicles and N group are goods carrying vehicles. T is trailers.

I was told by a police officer that indicators should be able to be seen from the side. If this is true than maybe those cars with indicators in headlights would have side indicators. I have been looking around at various cars and this seems top be the case but would love for someone to confirm this.

Yes this is true and that is why you see markers on cars running rossi headlights with the indicator in the bottom.

If you ditch the guard mounted indicators you need to run small side lights, like steve c has added.

Yes,
that is why late model cars have the small side repeater blinker lamp and now in the mirrors...
cars with wrap around blinkers like late type 3 VWs didn't need the side lamps...

and My local rego mechanic won't pass a beetle with blinkers inside the headlamps...
Rossi type headlamps are hard to see the lamp below it too,
I always thought the bottom light in Rossi headlamsp was the clear parker lamp...
the top of guard blinkers would still need to be used...

I was told recently that I needed new tail lamp lenses as the red tail lamps were too bright.... I said"they were new tail lamp lenses..." He concluded that the bulbs must be too bright.. I have chrome reflectors in the tail lamps..

In particular the VSB14 has a lot of info that Victorian VASS engineers utilise. If you are doing anything, and can work it within the VSB guidelines, you are likely to have your engineer sign it off, as they have a current piece of information they can assess it to.

I only deal with VASS on a weekly basis, so I cant be up to the minute on the dial. In fact I will say I don't know. I just go by the Australian Government Department of Infrastucture and Transport current info.

can any one tell me if it is illegal in qld,to fit snowflakes to a 62 beetle? and also ,are semaphores ,acting on their own, legal in this day n age?(with no other blinkers on the vehicle?) cheers ..stink..:starhit:

The snowflake/semaphore combo is technically only legal in the year model that came out with them, and even then, they are frowned upon by the transport inspectors because of thier antiquated design difficulty to be seen.

I have a question. I've been trying to figure out a good way to make a swinging tailgate thing for spare / jerrycans / whatever for my '75 camper. One of the issues I can see is possible partial blocking of the tail lights. If I were to put a couple of nice big RTA approved taillights on the rack do I need to get that certified? Honestly if I could I'd like to do something like that anyway as I have been considering a second pair on the roof because I don't know what it's like everywhere else but the traffic here goes something like this: nothing TRUCKcar nothing TRUCKTRUCKcar.

The nothings can be up to kilometers long. I'd say the distances between the trucks and cars are to scale. Brown pants time fairly often as a result.

Not according to the Mechanic who passes My Cars for rego each year...

when the headlamp is on.. [at night]

the orange bulb cannot be noticed...

but then there are quite a few of them on the road...
all registered..??

Have you notice the new mini headlights in the current model?
They have a blinker in them, and its OEM from the factory.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what ANY mechanic says, it comes down to the engineering signatory.

Engineering signatory? You have strange laws in NSW, in QLD you only need a roadworthy when the car is being registered, or when it's sold, and Queensland Transport has no idea whether the car is fit or not, as long as you have the correct Safety Certificate (read Roadworthy Certificate) they don't even look at the car. So there is quite a lot of room for dodgy roadworthiers, that said if a cop spots something wrong with your car even if it's all been registered like that, he can pull you over and defect your car.

My Son drives His $39,000 Lancer with the headlamps on all the time... and when at an intersection, the other drivers think He's going straight ahead..
the indicators are on the inside of the headlamps...
NOT the outside as is usual...
plus they aren't very large...

semaphores were never used in the USA - as far as I know...
they had red blinkers back in the 50s.. maybe earlier..
the stop light used to blink...
thats why they still have red blinkers.. at the rear...

and they were used in Australia and the UK etc..
and were called trafficators...

57-58 holdens also had red blinkers... stop light blinked..
I believe they were an accessory back then..

PS: Legally... lenses should have numbers on them relating to the rules back when they were new..
smoked or red lenses are ILLEGAL...
BLUE DOTS are also ILLEGAL...

headlights that go to the Right when dipped are also illegal..
they usually have letters on the lens

There's his problem, he should turn his headlights off when it's day time (stormy weather excepted), we don't live in Norway!
