Looks pretty Porsche-ish to me. 912 engine is similar to 356.
Cheers, Greg
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

I think the 912 was the precursor to the 911, it used the 356 engine, whereas the 911 went straight to 6 cyl.
What about the important porsche mistakes, 924 and 914 spring to mind.

Nothing wrong with the 914...the 411's big sister
As for the 924....well they have water now anyway and they handled better than the 911 of the time.

In Australia the 912 we got had the run out of the 356 motors
In USA the 912E had the run out of the 914 2L Type 2 motor

Hmmm... looks pretty correct for a 912 to me.
Note that the cylinder tin and fan shroud is different than an upright VW motor, no fuel pump near the dizzy and the alt/gen stand sitting over at an
angle like that.... all things that were different on a 912 motor.
Now if only I had some $$$ to spend on one....

Is it just me or does the air filter on the carbie to the right seem lower than the one to the left?
Great looking car though.

mmmmm..................seems the 912 was sold from 1965 - 1969 as the 1600 356 motor
"After a six year absence, the model was re-introduced to North America in 1976 as the 912E to occupy the entry-level position left vacant by the
discontinuation of the 914"

I was looking on" the samba "..
and it says that the 912 used the type 4 VW engine that was used in the 356 Porsche... ????
I think someone has their wires crossed there....

912 was an entry level Porsche 1965? - 1969 it had a 90hp version of the 356c engine (95hp). Then in 1976 Porsche made the 912e a one year only car
they had after the 914 and before the 924. It had the 2.0L 914 engine.

the 911 actually had an option for a 4cyl as well, but as you can imagine very few people actually took it, as the 6cyl had 130bhp and the 4cyl as
stated above 95ish

Yeah, who'd want a super light convertable that's very easily upgradable to kick most 911's on the road...
YUCK!!!

Actually, my favourite Porsche was the '76 912E that had the type 4 engine.
Great candidate for upgrades....even though the type 4 is a boat anchor,
it is still a better engine than the 356 or early mag cased flat 6,(in my opinion, he he).

Hutcho - your pic is a 914/6, or at least a 914 that's been converted and made into a replica... a 911 would need a turbo to have even half a chance
on a track !!!
If only it was red... sex on wheels...
