QLD'er P'plater Driving in NSW...
Good evening!
I was hoping a NSW resident in the know could answer me this...
If I am driving in NSW, and at home I have a provisional licence, but don't have to display P plates, Must I in NSW??

A little side note that you may already know. I think red P platers are restricted to 90 km/h and green P platers are restricted to 100 km/h, in the
NSW. I would't know whether it also applies to P platers from other States. Wouldn't it just be safe to whack the plates on anyway (outside of car)
?

It would be safe, if I couldn't find out. But, 1, I don't need to spend the money on them if I don't need them, 2, I don't want to be pulled over
because they think I'm a P plater, 3, I want to go over 100km/h If the signs say so...

Don't put them on and you probably won't get pulled over.
In nearly three years of P plate driving on the old QLD laws(not having to wear the plates) I've been pulled over once.
I have a friend that got his licence a few months ago (new laws)
and he was pulled over 13 times in the first week he was driving!
They only make people wear the plates so they know who to target and so the government can make more money.

The plates are free
The amount of police out at the moment you most likely will get pulled over some where any how, they are not happy with the road toll and are out in
force
Double demerit points off your licence for the holiday period, so quite possible to loose licence in one hit
10 hour trip at an average 10km/h faster you save all of one hour, why bother!
Look on the RTA website and decide for your self

that is a tough question....
P plates do attract the Highway patrols.... like a magnet...
plus the P plates are free in NSW.... at any RTA office..
red or green ones...
If You do use them.. keep to that speed limit...
but if You are pulled over... even for a breath test -
and your licence says P PLATER - You would be in trouble... $$$$$$$$

Yeah, put 'em on Jase... when you're driving in a different state, you have to drive by their rules.
In NSW even 15+ years ago the fine was like $100 I think for not having P plates on if you were on a P license. Your 1303 needs that $100 more than
the NSW government does...
Although, their economy is pretty trashed right now.... hmmm....

If you aren't doing anything wrong... so following the road rules, speed limit etc... then they can't make money out of you.

You are quite correct. I'm just not restricted by the current QLD P plate laws. Harrah for getting my licence before the current laws came in.

'P' plate drivers are 'watched' by the NSW Police because they are over represented in crash statistics. Check the NSWRTA site for confirmation.
Whilst you may think it is revenue raising, the fines, ask the people who pull the bodies from the crash scenes what they think. Fines are meant to
discourage breaking or 'bending' the rules. It could also be your son or daughter who has their live saved.
I have a friend who lost her 17 year old son and her 15 years old son in an MVA. All the rules in the world can't change one persons choice at a
place in toime behind the rule. We can only hope they are influenced to follow the rules.
Just because the sign posted speed is 100kph or 110 kph it doesn't mean you MUST drive at that speed and if you have been on the roads lately hardly
anyone does anyway. It's always I was only doing 10kph more. Or the classic I love at parties, "I always drive at 120 kph on the freeway I am a safe
driver". Until something goes wrong and someone dies.
Do the crime pay the fine.
If you don't have to display 'P' in your State then you are not required to do so here as you are not a NSW licensed driver. However the speed
limits that apply to NSW Provisional Licensed drivers still apply to interstate visitors. If you get caught speeding you receive the same penalty as
A NSW licensed driver. eg, 'L' driver in QLD can drive at 100kph in NSW the maximum speed is 80 kph and must be observed by interstate drivers on
their 'L's.
