CYL Head cracks
Hi Gentleman
Is cyl head cracking common in VW engines, I had 4, 1600 TP heads and cn only salvage 1.
1 Head has a crack from the inlet to exh seat, its big about 1 mm wide, maybe someone has replaced the seats and had too tighter tolerance.
The other two have cracks at the spark plug in the combustion chamber.
All three had cracks in the alloy head where the exh giude has been pressed in.
Is this common or am I extremly unlucky.
Also, merry xmas to everyone on here, you all are a good bunch of guys.
Thanks Trev

Yep, all thats pretty normal. depends how bad the cracks are , but generally they should be welded up to overhaul properly. Makes a new set the
obvious alternative. Reason they are regularly cracked is most have been overheated at some stage due to incomplete cooling system, compression ratio
issues and poor state of tune.

Firstly I am not a good guy, proof is in the following reply..............................I think they have cracked because the spark plug is in the
combustion chamber, best to keep the two separate. Well I think it's funny.
