water temp gauge used as oil temp?
Looking at putting in a 4 in one gauge revs with needle and volts ,oil pressure,water temp digital display. iI like the idea of one gauge keeps it
neet.But can i use water temp gauge as oil temp.I thinking that as long as water temp reads as high as oil temp is should be ok. Can any one tell me
what a 1914 temp oil should run between dont have any gauges in so dont know. Have also see on market fuel gauge in multi unit but in 59 bug dont
have sender in tank any ideas ps happy new year to all

Hey mate, i just installed this tacho
It has volts, oil pressure, water temp and tach and shift light setting on the right.
At the moment i have te water temp hooked uo so its resting on my header as close to the block as possible,
The volts is hooked up normally same with the tacho,
It should work fine as long as you mount it in the right spot.

There you go most of us are in some way like the rest of us .I am thinking of mouting on dash using vintage speed support bracket it seems to use the
existing choke hole but i would move headlights to chock and use headlight switch hole.But what i am mainly asking is can i hook up a oil sender to
water temp gauge .Both read temp as far i i can figure as long as water temp goes as high should work ok .As i thing having oil temp to me seems a
must. But where you have put yours may give a better idea about head temp.I am the same as you though if it can be done in one unit why not .

I can't see any reason why You can't use the temperature gauge for oil...
it goes right around the dial...
so the temp should be fine...

Yes can be done... I am currently. Oil temp will not go over std water temp range (120) and if it does you got issues.
What my garage isn't messy........Well chaos is a form of order isn't it?

the sender doesnt care what kind of fluid its in,
just as long as the sender and gauge are within oils limits it will work.
main prob is most water temp guages wouldnt go high enough
they only usually go to 120c, where as a vw oil is at running temp around 110-120
so in summer your gauge would probably be pegged alot

As Joel says, it doesn't matter what the fluid is that the gauge is measuring, as long as its the correct sender for the gauge, mounted in the
correct spot. With the VDO gauges, I recommend using the water temp gauge as the red marlings start aroung 115* and that is the temp where you want to
start slowing as the volksie starts to have problems over that.
