You did.
For a few seconds there was a silver Karmann Ghia on the screen, then the show went back to showing far too much of the boring moderns.
If I want to see WRXs and EVOs racing/rallying then I'll watch TV shows about rallies.
The TV shows of the Targa Tasmania, Classic Adelaide and Classic Perth concentrate on the moderns and the ultimate winners.
They only show glimpses of the real reason why I tune in. That is the real old classics. For example. There was a 1930s Jaguar SS100 on the podium as
a class winner, but they never once showed it being driven.
I think that the people who run those events have lost the real reason why the event is run, which is to drive old classics and not to really care
about who is the overall winner in some expensive modern dream car.
If it wasn't for the large field of slower also rans in the event, the event would not happen. People sponsor cars in the Targa/Classics to get some
advertising time in return. If their sposorship of a car is not shown for even a few seconds, then there is a chance that they will not sponsor future
competitors and the result can only be a reduction in the appeal of the whole event.

As an example of what I'm talking about. One of my brothers in law sailed in the Sydney to Hobart race a few years ago. He was sponsored by his
employer, Fuji. They paid for a new spinnaker in company colours and with Fuji written all over it in huge letters. He flew it most of the time. Never
once was his spinnaker shown on the TV because he was an also ran. The TV concentrated on the winners. Fuji would not sponsor him again because they
did not get any TV airtime from their expense. If the TV had shown his spinnaker for about 10 seconds of the one hour TV show about the race, Fuji
would have been satisfied and would have sponsored him again.
Am I alone in this? I don't care who wins. I want to see all of the competitors, no matter how slow or behind they are.

They did show the demise of the Eureka, classic yobbo fans clapping and cheering after he hit the gaurd rail .
i started with nothing and have most of it left !

I believe there were two VWs in competition, a KG driven by Rene Fiekl?? and a Beetle with (I think) Adam DeBiasi. From what I can remember both
dropped out due to mechanical problems, but full details should be available on the competition website. http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca10/index.asp
The KG was storming along, and comfortably beating the 260Z driven by one of the directors from my work, and I was looking forward to giving him heaps
about that until it pulled out.
One of the guys on this forum (Doctor) is a photographer and has some photos on his website. He does have an excellent photo of a Ferrari on the front
page of the website.

Yes,
I agree...
I only watch the targa's etc to see the oldies...
but as You said... they don't show them...
I may have to visit adelaide to see this classic.. and see the classic and vintage/veteran cars...
Shame about the sponsorships though...
same as the V8's they even count how many seconds they are on the screen... lol
so, the easiest way is to crash... in front of the cameras of course... lol
You never see the old cars doing 110 kmh flat out, with skinny wheels etc... Now that is brave... lol
and no roll cages either... many have no roof...

Spot on guys. I have been going out to Classic Adelaide since the first and i am becoming more and more upset by the infiltration of the modern tarmac
rally crap being brought out in recent years. After chatting to some fellow enthusiasts, the organisers have had to turn to the heavily sponsored
moderns to keep numbers up due to economic times. It seems a bit of a quandry...if it were me in charge (cue if I ruled the world music).....more air
time of classics=more sponsor interest in classics=more being dragged out of sheds and entered if only in touring class....dunno, thats just me. Guess
it's a double edged sword.
Trust me though, there were many awesome early Porsches, some great old Benz's and yes, the Karmann, Purvis and Adams Beetle.
I have lots of shots. I will post some up in a smidge......

suppose, we must live with it.

I remember when this event first ran and it was only for 'classic' cars. Now it is over run with late model $hit. I fail to see how a evo or rex is
a 'classic' rally car. But in saying that in order to get the $$ and the TV you need to support the car companies which spend the dollars for the TV
to start with. Unfortunately nothing is free. Even free to air TV. As long as motor sport is getting promoted, then I see it as a good thing. Nice
photos to btw. This event is one that is in on my list as a must do. Hopefully one day soon.

Thanks for the pictures. That's what I wanted to see on the TV.
I'm pleased that I'm not alone. I understand the economic problems with the new trend, but its a real tragedy.
The general public doesn't seem to care, so it will continue to be dominated by the moderns and the dollars. What a shame.
In the Classic Adeliade show a young man was shown enthusing about the classics that he loved to see. The Datsun 260Zs. Hmmm! Classics. Yes, but only
just.
