Daily rant - Tyre shops
Are there any decent tyre shops on the north side of Brissy?
I would have tried half a dozen over the last few years, and every single one has left crap inside at least one tyre when it's fitted to the rim.
Usually it's the back end of the valve from when they pull it out.
Today I had a leaky tyre fixed at what I hoped was a reputable shop, and yet again there is crap left inside the tyre. So again the car is off the
road and I need to return to the shop to have it fixed.
Surely it can't be that hard to remove the rubbish THEY put inside the tyre?
I wonder how many badly balanced tyres are out on the road due to incompetent operators.
I have only ever once delivered my car to a tyre shop. Ever since I only take the tyres in, and usually give the tyre a roll and listen before heading
home. Today unfortunately I just chucked it in the car and left.

Can you say what sort of area of brisbane you are in?? (suburb?) please.....
As for stuff in the tire, a bit of black dust or sand is not too unusual. However, valve stems, and other solid objects are, as you say no good.
maybe go to a tire shop where you can watch them do it??

Hi
If you keep going to the same shop and they get to know that you wont stand for shoddy work you might have win that way.
If you have expensive wheels you need to find a good shop. I use one in Sydney that puts my wheels on his machine that is usually used for new fit
ups, I make sure my wheels are absolutely spotless inside and out before taking them in.

I figure if they can't get something that simple right, why bother giving them more business? Besides, I don't need a tyre shop often enough.
I also make sure everything is clean and no rocks etc in the tread for balancing.
Colonel, I'm in Banyo. Dunno with WHS that any shops would let you in these days?
Just can't see why they can't just get it right, not one shop I have been to got it right.

A bit far from you Andy, but we used Keith Mackay Tyre & Mechanical at Red Hill for many years and always good service. Still there on the main
road and a family business.

I have tried them all over the years, phoned around till I got the best price (sometimes saved 4 or 5 dollars per type, whoopee) now I don't bother,
off to Bob Jane, price is good, service tops, book the car in for a specific time if needed and a free tyre rotation and allignment check to boot.
Give them a go is my recomendation.

I did the same thing. But I wouldnt recommend my local. Got my free rotation and asked them to recheck their alignment and rebalance as well. The
rebalance was worse than their first balance. Not really good when they seem to imply that they have exclusive use of the best wheel balancing system
there is. http://www.bobjane.com.au/wheel-balancing.html

I think the quality of the job depends on the store owner/manager, not the chain they belong to. The last three places I have been to have been big
chain stores with no better results.
I would never use a free rotation as I like to remove my wheels with a normal wheel spanner after they have been installed, and prefer to keep the
wheel bolts clean and greased, oh and be sure they have been rotated in sensible fashion.

years ago i had a car taken to mr Jane to put 2 new tyres on the front car went in a new sports exhaust and came out with race car exhaust, the dick
head reversed the car into the gutter and bent the crap out of my exhaust and had cracked somewhere underneath.i left the store got to 2nd gear and
reversed into the store only for the guy that worked on the car to say he didnt do anything.lucky the gutter that he hit still had the crumbled bits
and a perfect circle where he'd hit "oh no i didnt hit anything"they fixed my exhaust after 2 weeks.was never lined up correctly tilted to the
left.
