I have seen mine do that 4 out of the 5 times - the first time was before I owned the car.

I saw my old '64 do it three times, once with its original MPH speedo then twice more with a km metric speedo. My Kombi has only done it once but is due for 200,000 km sometime in 2012 I reckon.

My Golf Mk3 has passed 100,000 km but it wasn't exciting - its odometer is an LCD display and it just adds an extra digit! It will have to pass 999,999 km to get back to zero. Not impossible for a Volkswagen.

something i only found out the other day i dont know how many vws it affects but the mid 90s model jettas atleast with the digital odometer go back to 000000 when they hit 300k

till they get to that point they just say "total" above the odo
that dissapears once they reset

When I had my bug it rolled over to zero just before I pulled into my drive. I thought it was pretty cool at the time. I took this snap later:

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh297/greasykitchen/VWs/Speedo.jpg

And the fuel gauge didn't work either. Ran outta gas enough times to the point where the last time it happened I had a full jerry can onboard (probably not wise). You just know you're gonna run out when you have spare fuel on you (I was only down the road from home too).

My old man had a Bil lCosby comedy tape when I was a kid. He did a sketch about how his son borrowed the car, and when Bill got in it the next morning it was empty. How could you possibly time it to run out of fuel as you pull in the driveway? Very funny. Except I managed to do it too at my girlfriends house once. I drove there, no problems. Went to drive away, wouldnt start. My fuel gauge worked well when full, then at 1/4 tank it dropped to empty.
