Swing axle to CV box
Hi
I have a bush buggy and it has a swing axle gearbox and i was wonderign if it is possible to put a CV gearbox in it. I know you would have to change
suspension bars and weld some brackets but would it fit in??
Thanks
Geoff

It all looks like it will fit the only diference is that i will have to weld some brackets up for the bar that goes from the bottom CVs to frame. Does
anyone know if there is any other difference
cheers

This job is 'easier said, than done'.
There're a lot of chalenges in getting things lined up. If you don't do it exactly correct, then the car will 'track' wrong and
become a bitch to try and drive.
The IRS brackets are available, need to be welded in properly and in line/square to the moving parts.
It is a job that not many people are capable of and end up sending the job to a specialist.
I'm not trying to talk you out of doing the job, just advising you that it's not 'that' easy.

I have just been through all this when I got my country buggy. All the bit can be ahd from Custom Off Road in Brisbane.
It looks like a good conversion but I wouldn't attempt it my self and looks tricky with out taking the body off. I decided to stay with what I
had as it would have blown my budget that I have with the finance dept (wife).:cry |

Its going in an off road buggy that so its alot easier to work on than a normal VW, no panels or anything just roll bars. Are the brackets available
in sydney.

or the brackets can come from a type 3, you could make a "template" from a factory i.r.s. i've seen it done off the front gearbox mount
studs, it was just a welded frame that used these studs as the guide to hold the brackets via a bar and square that fitted snuggly in the corner of
the pivot boxes. the side of your frame horns will also need to be ground out and handbrake cable tubes moved down, unless you dont run them or use
hydraulic steering brake in your buggy! luke pell had some pumped trailing arms hanging around before they relocated and would probably have the t3
sub frame for your pivot boxes too. http://www.vwparts.com.au or 0265 648008

See this for some hints on the change over. This was given to someone else the other day by Marcel type82e to a similar question.
