R.I.P.

Finally, I have stopped procrastinating about sending my type 3's to the tip. I've sold what I could (not much), given more away, and just had fun with the rest. It's time to say goodbye.:(:(:(

By the time most of you read this, both the ’70 Fastback and the ’73 Square will be gone. A guy is coming over at 8.30am today to pick them both up for scrap. :(:(:(

Thats a sad start to my Saturday Col. Think I might go back to hangin out washing in 5 degrees.

It is the inevitable I guess. Couple of weekends ago I went ballistic with the fish oil and chassis selant. Still I have to replace a floor pan under the pedal assembly for next months rego.

The good news is where chosen and trialing a colour. Didi the guards last weekend and it looks pretty cool. I'll wait till the whole Dog-O-Wars the same colour and then I'll show you all.

Sorry to see them go Col but this will make room for two more to come in won't it?

I had some great times in these Dubs. I bought the fastback back in 95 or 96 for $650 with RWC and rego. :thumb

What I thought to be a bargain at the time turned sour after 18 months when the engine case cracked, leaving a trail of oil at every intersection so bad that after a couple of days, I could follow myself around town! :o I kept putting oil in it and drove it anyway. :D

Stripping the motor down revealed that the previous owner had known about the crack and had siliconed over it!

My mechanic suggested we could try welding the case with rods made for magnesium, which was successful for about three weeks. :(

The remains has taken up half my shed space for the past five years. I always had dreams of restoring it, but in the end it became a parts car for the squareback. I did have some fun with it before it went to the tip though..... :D:D:D

Yeah Bronze, I already have an early 1500S Notch waiting to come home, and I've got my eye on something comfortable for Heather to drive. ;) Looking forward to seeing how the Dog turns out! :thumb

I bought the squareback inistially as an engine donor for the fastie. It had been sitting for 5 years by the beach in Williamstown, and had about 1/4" of bird crap on it, and didn't look like it was much good for anything else. I turned up with a set of carbies, a battery and a jerrycan full of fuel, and the old girl was running in about 20 minutes. The owner could see I was pretty serious about VW's and gave it to me for $250 (:D) so I drove it onto the trailer. :thumb

Athough not intended to be a driver, we ended up bogging the holes in the roof, spraying about half of it with Killrust Spray Enamel (Ultra Blue) from a can and driving it around for the next four years!! Apart from a budget engine rebuild, I had to do very little to this car, and I still have the motor sitting in my shed. :D

I couldn't give it away, so I decided to have some fun with this one too.....

Bugger me Col. I knew that the square was cactus but i thought you were gonna resto the fasty. Well, life goes on and im sure that the notch will be pretty phat, well at least with the parts you got out of the other two it will handle and stop better. :thumb

Yeah Steve, I was going to get the fasty going, but I ran out of room. Jim did tell me a long time ago that I needed to cut down the number of projects I have. Funnily enough, look how many VW's he's got in his yard now! :o

Now I have an IRS rear and disc brake front to go in the notch, and space to move, although the kombi is in there at the moment while I get its motor back in. As soon as that's done, I'll be picking the notch up, but it will be sitting outside for a while yet.... I've decided to finish building my truck (International C1300 4x4 Panel) before starting on the notch, because I'm going to do a pan-off rebuild and I'll need the whole shed. Besides, I haven't been four-wheel-driving for a while... :thumb

Unfortunately, getting rid of two type 3's hasn't really made me any room - I've got the notch coming, and after Valla I'll be buying a Leyland P76 for Heather to drive :o

As you can see below, I had some space in the shed, before I pushed my (white) kombi back in there...

Hey Col,
That looks SWEET mate!!!!
I'll be very keen to hear the results. I have 2 x 2L motors awaiting re-builds and will be contemplating what you have done.
