Looks like a good starter for someone, given that I just got back from Perth - I am way over the travelling, which is probably a good thing to keep me away from the bidding button

I see it's on Bill's Register.
#219
We now know the VIN from the ad: 118310669
Also given was the motor number: F1253662
These last two bits of info aren't on The Register.

Looks to be in in pretty decent shape from what pics are shown.
We've all seen much, much worse.
3 bids as of now.
@ $2,247 AUD
Reserve not met

Regards,
Steve

Upon reflection, the rust question is a very valid one.
The ad claims no rust.....but the sloppy respray does make one wonder. It might have bee better to have left it as it was for a potential buyer to more clearly determine its condition.
To its credit it does have some original bits that aren't always there with these kinds of eBay offerings:
Original engine, 6 volt. Runs.
Detachable fibre glass roof
Clip on canvas sides (no pics offered)
Front windshield folds down
Original vinyl seats

Steering wheel looks to be original.

No movement in the bids. Wonder what the reserve is???

Regards,
Steve

6,500 AUD = 5,728.09 USD
Even though the Aussie dollar has fallen a bit in the last few weeks against the US dollar, that asking price, if it is correct, may be a bit on the high side, IMO.
Even with all the original bits.
But then again maybe not.....
Since it's in WA, it might be a tougher sell than in southern or eastern areas of Oz.
I doubt it would go for that asking price on eBay....

Oh, the unknowns of selling a 41 year old vehicle with very low production numbers......
:smilegrin::)
It will be interesting to see what develops.

One day to run and bidding has moved along to $4010. Would expect this might almost meet the asking price of the vehicle on Quokka. The key would be viewing the vehicle and seeing what is was like under the red top coat.
The originality surprises me, even down to motor, seats, and pan. I can see no front bar , different wiper set up and no rear tray. There only looks to be two serios and frequent bidders at the moment. Lets see what it ends up like.

With a little under eleven hours for the auction to run, looks like a couple of new bidders have jumped into the fray.
Bidding now at $4,550 AUD.
The bids have definitely has gone up, the question is whether the bidders will meet or exceed the reserve before the auction ends.
It could happen if two determined people get caught up in a last hour bidding war.
I'd be surprised to see that happen.

I know someone who spoke with the owner. It sounded as though he would let the vehicle go to the highest bidder if it got close to the reserve and I reckon at $4950 it should have been close. I see the owner is also selling a ex PMG splitty and a Trakka Camper as he is over his involvement with VWs.
Be interesting to see if the vehicle changes hands. I think it will.If anyone hears the outcome can they let me know so I can update the Register.

Yes it's relisted, but I don't understand the reasoning for the new price.
If it didn't sell in the previous auction for $4950 (with a speculated $6,500 threshold), what makes the seller think he's gonna get $13,500 for it in a "buy it now" auction?
The remoteness of the location in WA doesn't help his prospects, IMO
If it were located in VIC, NSW, or QLD, he might have a chance of unloading it, but at the listed price, it's a real long shot.
I know there's record drought in Oz, but I doubt if the heavens are going to suddenly open up and pour big bucks on KO 770.
Cheers to wishful thinking....

tell him he's dreaming, $13500 unlicenced and a dodgy paint job? he's also re-listed the split ute $16500 unlicenced and in lots of bits, at $30K the pair he hasn't lost that much interest in VW's, and he will have paid bugger all a few years ago! just my 2cents.

pure greed, just a thought, he had the buggy advertised in the paper about $6500, if he's been offered $13000 by a scammer, he possibly thinks thats what he can sell it for.

The seller has closed the second ad for this CB and posted a new ad.
http://cgi.ebay.com/VW-Country-Buggy-1968_W0QQitemZ280465137046QQihZ018QQcate...

This time it has a starting bidding price of $19.99 AUD.
It still has the $13,500 "Buy It Now" option.
I guess if you try every angle, maybe something might get flushed out.
I still see no way this is going to sell for $13,500, even with transportation to Melbourne offered as a carrot by the seller.

mate, loose the greed gain the trust, you have alot of hits cos people are curious of what you are doing next, not cos they are going to bid!

Not a bidder, never have been and never will be.
I think CJ John's comment could be right on the money, more so than the current asking price
