Hammerite Paint
Anyone in OZ stock Hammerite paint in a rattle can? If not, what do people use for a tough gloss black paint for misc little parts (tie rod ends,
spindles etc etc)

I think you can get other brands in a can at bunnings. I bought a 4ltr can of dark blue Hammerite years ago and painted my whole kombi in it. It had a
nice effect. Never saw it in a can tho

I think both Bunnings and Mitre 10 stock Wattle Killrust Hammer Finish - it is available in both tins and spray cans. It's great stuff. White Knight
also sells a similar Hammer finish in cans.
Not sure about Hammerite specifically - I think it's a UK brand and might not be too common.
I used normal gloss black Killrust on my Beetle and Kombi for those sort of odds and sods. Normal spray can gives a good finish.

Killrust Hammered finish is not as good as Finnegans Hammerite imo. I found the killrust flaked off whereas hammerite seemed more flexible and much
longer lasting. I have seen it in Oz but not very often.

pretty sure supercheap has it, i bought a can 5yrs ago from auto1, not sure if they still stock it though

I found using this and then putting the part in front of a 100w spot light (outdoor garden types) made it dry a lot faster and gave a much hardier
finish. almost as good as powdercoating I reckon.

PPC sell it, it's the same place that sells POR 15. I got mine from ATI panel and paint in Brisbane, they will post it. There's a limited colour
selection over here, I was after satin black, but it wasn't available. I've found hammerite smooth to be the longest lasting direct to rust paint
around, except Por15, but hammerite is UV stable. Did the front air flaps on the 70 bay 4 years ago and not even a pin prick of rust showing. If it's
under the car and not subject to sun exposure, go por15, it's high gloss, lasts a long time and is self levelling, so can be brushed. Expensive, but
500ml goes a long way.
I used kill rust on the split spindles and baked it, still alittle brittle on sharp edges, but pretty tough.

Was also thinking POR-15 but heard it is a bitch to get right and you need all the other prep products to make it work properly i.e. expensive
system.
Where abouts is ATI in Bris?
