Induction Noise

Do you guys any suggestions on reducing the induction noise on twin carbs except for importing a centrally mounted airbox? The ones from CSP look nice but seem prohibitively expensive.

Know of a couple of people who've built their own airboxes... assuming Weber's, the method was to get some "turbo tops" for the air cleaners, then fab up some PVC pipe and bends (Bunnings Speed Shop ;) ) to link the two sides together but still clear throttle linkage, lid hinges etc. then finally install a couple of K&N style pod filters in the middle section.

gracey might chime in... he's gotten some pretty good results from his setup...

Oh - and from experience with noise limits at race tracks, it's amazing how much improving engine bay sealing can reduce the noise.... several of the Escort guys I run with, if they don't seal the edges of their bonnets (speed tape), they go over the 95dBA noise limit !!!

We tried Dynamat in the rear and covers over the filters and this worked to a small degree, but at 100kph the noise was still excessive,so we modified a Hyundai excel air box and fabricated the tubing to suit, this works quite well. With a bit of time spent at the dismantlers yards you should be able to find a smaller filter box off something late model and as sides says fabricate what you want.

Hmmm... sounds like the problem is with your stereo then, and nothing to do with induction noise at all !!!
