Simple VW Street Beetle Class for DRAGS

The old K.I.S.S. method

Rule 1: Car must not weigh less that original manufacturers specs.
Rule 2: Everything else is free, as long as it complies with rego for its home state.

This will mean it comes down to the good old power to weight ratio. So you will need to extract good HP from the motor......not just turn up in a gutted out car to post a good time.

Thats what i reckon would make a good class.

Yeah don't discriminate those of us who are in Kombi's after all we are the heaviest LOL

Personally I think it should be street tyres, muffler, set a minimum weight so either light cars carry weight and cars that are heavier can strip weight out. Engine wise should there be some rules like having to run a cooling system and perhaps air cleaners.

It is always going to be a huge can of worms doing rules for something like this but personally it would be a great class of racing to watch.

Good idea craig i was thinking of somthing simular! How about all V.A.G. 2wd mass produced vehicles with orignal type of engine(ie air cooled flat4 T1,T2,T3,watercooled 4,5,6,8's vw audis seats skoda etc)rego details match the car in question and lites, indicators, wipers, glass windscreeen,Body pannels must be mounted in stock location.Every thing else free?

why only 2wd ? Golfs wouldnt stand a chance against aircooled cars . You can rule out all 8s as they only came out Quattro and most a6/s6's .
Should be all 4/6 cylinder VAG cars . FWD should be allowed full slick , rear wheel drive semi slick , all wheel drive street tyre or something equivalent .

Stripped out cars with fibreglass bits are what i drive so your idea for factory delivered weight initally put me against it then i remembered that my standard came with the passenger seat and rear seat delete option M236.(I think they called it the tv delivery man option i'll check with my vw geek)betcha that will be a light car!Gotta remember a lot of country tracks may not have scales. As for tires plain radials would be cool but what ever suits me.At "the 2009 event who's name shall not be spoken"my first pass was against a trailered race bug on slicks beat him on a holeshot,me with brazillian heads and M/T drag radials.

I think specifing weight is a bit dificult as it's too hard to proove or too easy to complain about. I'm not trying to argue but keep it simple as suggested. Rego, with all lights and saftey equipment, any legal tyres although there is an argument to rule out M/T's and the like as they are expensive yada yada, but for that matter if your serious about going fast, wouldn't you be running those tyres??? So that one I'm not sure about.
I do prefer the air cooled varities only (with any engine of course) but if it has to be any VAG so be it.

And why set up a series completely based upon a car that hasnt been sold here for over 30 years ?

And this is how your encouraging watercooled cars to come into drag racing ? By not including them in events ????

Are you going to complain that you cant take a Formula 1 car into the formulae vee class ?

Im complaining cause I come here with a watercooled drag car and Im unwelcome . I go to the watercooled forums and Im unwelcome cause Im into drag racing and not into chrome wheels and lowered cars . I go to warwick and portland and dont really have anyone to race against in my class cause they are all too slow so I get my wife to race in her street car . Im asking for acceptance into a street class for all VAG cars . The Gene Berg trophy was for Vag cars , why cant this be the same ?
