noisy throw out bearing
i think my throw out bearing is on its way out again  .
its sometimes got a quite noise when im daily driving, only when clutch in. but today after a sprint event it got realy noisy. but if i have the
clutch in then pick the revs up a bit the noise goes away.. any ideas ???
i have a 2 day event in 3 weeks so i want to know if i should replace it before then....

YES
I would replace it....
some early thrust bearings were the solid carbon type
when the carbon wore down to the metal....
it became very noisy... and hot.. and will fail at some time..
If its a ball bearing type thrust race then its worn out and dry
and can disintergrate at any time...
so You need a thrust bearing... pilot bearing... and front engine oil seal...
Normally, a new complete clutch kit would be installed if a garage is doing the job... including a new cable..
If You are doing the job.. just the above bits will keep You going..

yes pull theengine and replace and check the clutch and rear oil seal while your there and engine mounts as well

okay i pull it out and replace them, the fork is a HD type so that should be sweet....
do u mean the seal in the beelhousing? not the one behind the flywheel.please say no to that one.....
a freind gave me a sachs T/O bearing, said they are a good type?? it looks better then the last one i put in...

check both seal for leaks will save you pulling enegine a second time

the seal on the input shaft of the gearbox
i think its on page 7 of my subi conversion thread theres pics from when i replaced mine
what gearbox/engine combo do you have? cos theres 2 kinds of throwout bearings and they're not interchangable
the swap happend in 71, newer ones have the guide sleeve bolted to the bellhousing

Gentlemen, remember your clutch theory, its the spigot bearing making the noise, as its only active when the pedal is depressed

Hi
Fischal & Sachs used to make all VW clutch parts...
Good German quality...
the spigot bearing PLUS the clutch thrust bearing are both turning when You have the clutch pedal pushed in..
You could replace the gearbox seal then...
Gland Nut could be a problem without the tools... lol
spigot bearing is the cheapest part... lol

before i started to pull my carbs and wiring off tonight, i decided to start it up and depress the clutch, and what, no noise.. exact same symptoms as
last time i raced.. noisy after the race and the drive home... strange one...
if its the throw out bearing again, why would it only of lasted 1000kms....last time it happened i also turned the diagram inside out on my pressure
plate, which caused slipping... but now i have a lot more freeplay in the peddle...

the welds on the clutch fork may have broken or the old pressure plate may b buggared
did u check the clutch free play and adjust
