Wanted Boss kit
Hi all,
I want to buy a SAAS steering wheel boss kit part number 1BK50L for my 74 superbug i have been told that they have been discontinued from the
manufacture, so if you have one anywhere i would love to here from you as i have a brand new old stock SAAS steering wheel it has 6 mounting screws on
it and just seems to good to throw away.Plus it looks good on the super plus clears all the dials so would love to be able to fit it.
If anyone can help me or give me any advice please PM me.
Cheers

This is what I have, its to suit a deep dish SAAS steering wheel. Marked 51 A on the boss, this fitted my '74 LBug when I still had it.

Now that I think about it they list the wheel as double deep dish, I just measured my old wheel and from the mounting face to the face of the wheel is
over 3 inches (80 mm)

I'm pretty sure most of the different brands of 6 bolt steering wheels use the same bolt pattern... so a Monza or even a Momo boss might work (and
they're both still available for VW's afaik).
So... I'd suggest taking your SAAS wheel into an Autobarn or something... check that it truly is the same bolt pattern (by comparing to their their
display stock) and then go from there....

also be aware theres 2 different 6 stud boss patterns out there
I've been caught out cos theyre so close its not funny
1 is 6x71mm and the other is about 6x74
momo, typeR and i think autotechinca are the small ones but SAAS, nardi, Luisi etc are the slightly bigger one
like sides said take the wheel to a boss dealer and see which fits

must be autotechnica or monza then
both my typeR and momo wheels fit one boss but they didnt fit the bigger one which took a luisi/autotechnica wheel
alot of them now come with both patterns

I don't think the boss I have will fit a wheel with only an 1 1/2" dish. You would end up knocking your knuckles on the indicator and wiper
switches.

Thanks for the trouble you have gone to and all the advice I have been given. I'll take it to a shop but how can i find out if the boss will fit my
spline let alone the wheel it's self.

Count the number of teeth on the spline and we can tell if it is early or late
Also if it is a 3 bolt strut set up it will be the large version
The change to small spline happened after they changed to 2 bolt suspension

I will do that now Don't laugh i put the steering wheel up in position and it cuts the same amount off the speedo.
Right now I am pissed off what size and make of steering wheel and boss kit will fit a 1974 super without blocking out some of the speedeo. It looks
like i need a diameter of 380mm and up, boy i am sorry about this. Now i have two wheels up for give away. my super build date is 11/74 and dia of
shaft is 15mm.
thanks again

yep you have the tapered late vw style
thats common to all vws from 74 through to about 93ish and some porsche as well
Lbugs with stock seats are a PITA to find a tiller that doesnt block the speedo but looks good and feels nice
