If so, what are your thoughts.
Thanks, Kev

I have a Pertronix ignitor which I hope to install in My beetle shortly.. in My New SVDA Bosch dissy from the USA...
I see another type or brand of ignition system advertised in last issue of the VWMA magazine... only about $45

Compu-Tronix looks like it makes a lot of sense, no air gaps, plugs fire directly from coil, with "distributor" working as a pure triggering
device.
Quote: |
The DIS4 is supplied with a billet aluminum triggering rotor which converts your stock 009 distributor into a triggering device for our electronics
package molded into the new lid. By designing a system that does not use a cap and rotor, we have essentially worked the bugs out of your Bug… and
helped you into the 21st century!
|
If you fit it to an 034 distributor or, the modern 009 equivalent SVDA, then it's hard to see how you could improve on it without going the really
big bucks racing route. (although this one's not dirt cheap either)
I wonder if it comes in 6 volt?
Regards,
Matt.

123 are the go, ibut they are $500 plus.
Personally I dont trust 009s as a basis of the Dis ex system . Many oo9s are Chinese made and not worth a dim sim,
But of course a standard SVDA and points set up correctly will WORK just the same as any spoofy after market CDI especially for standard and mild
donks.
There will be no performance increase that will show up on a dyno just claims.
The best reason to get one in for reliability and simplicity. but perhaps the best in that application ins a petronixs as they are much cheaper and if
they fail in the field you can always get home on a set of points.

waltermitty - I love those titty, in your avatar :-)
But in response to you stating about the 009 dizzy, the Compu-Tronix doesn't use your old 009 dizzy body. It has a complete replacement body that
looks like the 009, so I think this is better than the Compu-Fire which just has inserts into your old 009 body. Maybe better tolerances within the
Compu-Tronix system.
Also in testing it shows the Compu-Tronix holds better spark all the way through to 12,000 RPM where Compu-Fire drops off after 3500 RPM. Again, this
is Compu-Tronix reports only.
I am not trying to put Compu-Fire down as I was about to buy one, which is when I found out about these others. I just want the best for my money, as
I'm sure others would also.
I guess it all comes down to the triggering system in comparing these dizzy type setups to crankshaft pickup style. There are a few more areas of
varialbes, in the gear train.

I bought a Genuine NEW bosch SVDA distributor with vacuum and mechanical advance plus a Pertronix kit to put into it...
I bought it from aircooled.net in the USA
they set up the advance of the dizzy to whatever carburetor setup You are going to use....
I still haven't fitted it as yet, but will have to soon, as My engine needs a retune at the moment...
probably the points??
has a huge flat spot...lol

Just quickly, the Compu-Tronix has 16 different advance curves which are altered by a flick of a small switch inside dizzy.
Lee,
On a side note, I have noted you have had this SVDA dizzy for some time. It would make my happy if you fitted it this long week-end and I bet after
you have done it, you say to yourself "shit, why did I put that off for so long" and I speak from experience

wanting to run this in my DC.
My engine is a 2 litre converted to upright cooling with a Sharpbuilt conversion kit. It has a VForce cam with straight cut timing gears (can not
remember cam specs but it is torquey and revs about 700 higher than stock. Like an Engle 110 for a type 1 motor). Carbs are 40mm Weber IDFs. Heads are
1800 bus heads (biggest valved stock type IV heads).
If anyone has any knowledge or can assist me that would be great. Im unsure if i can run this in my DC because of the engine.
