The Kustom 1302 - Rebuild!!! - UPDATED
Ok Well here it is. Some of you may or may not know but last year after my dad sold his L BUG i wanted to get a project bug of my own. First i did'nt
know what bug i wanted. I wanted a modern feel with a classic look. so i asked around and found an old 1302 S Bug , It was out in a paddock with a
bit of rust in the body but i could see potential in it. The owner started to tell me how it used to be a good running bug with bit of a hotted up
motor , body kit , Hot wire mag wheels and was origoanly a sydney bug and then a port bug. And then i looked back at the bug and i thorght , NO !! im
not gunna let this bug slip into a wrecking yard and striped for parts. I at that point decided that im going to bring this bug back from the dead
into a street racer. I never lost hope that one day i would be able to bring it home so about a year later (Now) I Have it. And the Rebuild begins.
It arived on the trailer and i was stoked to have it with me now and to get into fixing it.
Me inside it ,
Want it to end up similar to this
More details on how it's going soon.

I meant the blue in the Bugselecta picture.
It's a bit shabby at the moment but I'm sure you'll do a great job of giving it a new lease on life.

Hey Dylan. I was glad to see you hooking in to cleaning up your car when I called in on Sunday - and loving it. I am just sorry that I am working out
of town at the moment, but will often be home weekends. Hopefully by the time I can be of more help, I will be working back in town.
I guess you have to start with those rust repairs? Are you taking it somewhere, or doing it yourself? Or what did you have in mind?

Yeah Jeff , Thanks for offering your help it's greatly appriciated. I want to do as much stuff my self as possible but i cant weld yet so im going to
get various pannel cuts and get Brad condran to weld up the rust. Rust is one of the bigest jobs to do on it but just like all bugs theres somthing
special bout this one and im not letting it slip into a wrecking yard cause of a few rust scares. I will never loose faith in it. I have done the
floor pan and theres only like 2 little holes less than a 5 center big. I will get some updated pictures up soon.

Update !!!
Ok well heres the latest.
Floor Pans
]This weekend i finished the floor pans off. Got rid of the surface rust comming up on them
and painted them with rust preventetive paint. The Floor pans were Pretty much rust free
apart from 2 little holes less than a 5 cent peice so i did the pans first so they wouldnt get any worse
and at the same time i rust convered the bigger holes in the body and gave them a coat of paint. Next weekend
i will do the under side of the chassis.`
Before
After
Rust Repair
All the rust is converted and has a coat of paint on it so hopefully next weekend i can start cutting out the rust and
marking out the new pannels to weld in. The Replacment Rear Valance is all ready to be swaped next weekend. Im going to
make it removable so it's easyer for engine instalations and removals.
Electrical
After i had done a few more things on the body work i thorght it would sort out the wiring in the front. All the wires
were tangeled and it looked like a birds nest. In the photo i had already started to clean it up a bit so you can just
imagine what it looked like. Then i got to the indicator and wiper switch stalks, The indicator side was broken and wouldnt
stay on the on position so i replaced it with the earlyer 1 stalk switch with the indicator switch only , Dosent have wiper
switch but i will have it on a seperate switch under the dash.

Yeah True Colonel , It Sucks cause the chassis is very good in the pan but now i have to do that with the frame head. Except the replacemtns are very
thin and i wouldnt use them so eah i gotta find another bug as a donor for pannel cuts and parts.

Sorry for late reply but yeah it may be bucled cause the apron is bent and dinged , Hopefully i can get the front cut from les and replace most of the
front. Im not sure what to do bout the frame head but i will take some more pics and ill see how bad it is but it may be a body off job and in which
case i may lose faith in getting it back to how it was when it was a good daily driver bug = (

Colonell , After Today i have lost a bit of enthusiasm with it cause of the frame head and finding that the body must have been in a crash cause its
had most of its pannels replaced and i still have to do alot more so it's not going to be safe if i just patch it up even more. so im going to get
another bug and ill use the parts off this one like floor pans , Gearbox , Miscilanious parts onto the new bug but dont worrie this bug aint going to
waste i will do anything i can to save it from the scrappers even in it's current condition.

sounds like you are wasting it mate.
How long till you get your learners? It might be a good idea to just chill, save some cash and buy something driveable. I know you want it to be
unique to you, but there is no point wasting cash on panels and pans and shells just to end up having a car you still cant drive.

Yeah im thinking the same thing colonel , I dont wanna waste money on pannels and stuff i just wanan get a good one and then modifie and kustomise to
the bug selector drawing. So yeah im parting it out and selling some stuff and keeping some stuff.
