Hazet Tool Kits?
Did Aussie Beetles come with Hazet tool kits in the spare wheel or did they get a pouch of tools?
How come they are so rare ie all have gone missing?

For at least the 50's & early 60's, the Beetles came standard with the pouch of tools.
Hazet boxes were an accessory. If it had VW on the box it had to come from a dealer. Could also come with "Tourist" or "Hazet" on the cover.
Modern repros can have "Empi" on them.
Some good info here: http://www.356.ca/tools/roundbox.htm

VWs in Australia only came with a pouch of tools..
one or two open ended spanners.. 10-12mm ??
box spanner for generator nut/wheel bolts..
and spark plugs..
long steel bar for box spanner and jack..
screwdriver..
I don't know why these were never sold with a used car..??
most used VWs didn't come with tools or manuals...
Hazets were sold in Europe and the USA...
as accessories...
Not sure whether they were sold by VW or just dealers??
were they ever sold in Australia??
Cannot ever remember seeing them years ago...

Hi
I have seen those kits...
trying to think what car they came with...
1960 or 1964 beetle??
with the short socket spanner...??
My long socket for spark plugs, generator nut and wheel studs
came from a type 3 I owned... lol
I do have some of the spanners...
VW stamped on them...
some a grey color?? [not paint]
some chromed...
I think the VW Australia sidchrome ones were chromed..

I have picked up NOS round toolkits from dealers in the past. They were sold through dealers as accessories, but only up to the mid 60's.

gee I hope thats a typo Lee and you didnt really mean to hit the number 2. No 12mm on a vw.
Funny how the jap cars seem to get a 10-12 spanner and a phillips head screaw driver. Not sure how I got them but I have a few nissan/datsun versions.
I dont know why manufacturers bother putting tools in. Waste of effort. I mean... ford dont even put in a real wheel brace in their falcons, just a
really stupid tube spanner that turns into normal round tubing when you try to get a wheel nut off.

If its advertised in an international forum such as ebay the top-end condition complete kits will sell for around $1500 Australian, as the Americans
and Europeans are very interested in those ones.
This not speculation or dreaming, thats my spare tyre kit shown above and I have been following the market with keen interest since I bought it
several years ago.

The ones at the nats were EMPI which im not a fan of as they have the EMPI symbol on the front.
I ended up buying this proper VW repro which they havent made for 10 years due to copyright laws.

Yes these kits were available for order from Lanock Motors in the late 1950s and early 1960s as an official Volkswagen accessory. They had their own
VW part number - 111012025. No prices were listed as these were subject to change. There was also a version for the Transporter, with similar tools
but in a canvas container. 211012025. This is a a page from the October 1959 Lanock Motors accessory catalogue.
Later Australian accessory catalogues from the mid-'60s-on didn't list the Hazet toolkit.

No, nothing like that I can see - probably an aftermarket accessory for something like that. The VW catalogue does list a number of weathershields,
sun visors and mesh grilles.

At Sandown swapmeet ,I saw a certain person purchase an original Hazet tool kit for $80.
He gave the seller $100 & told him to keep the change.
The seller ran after him asking questions.
The person selling it didn't know it's true value. This happened after I had done the rounds being s seller that day & I missed it
