[WTB - QLD] type 3 square early 70's

Looking for a good 69-73 type 3 squareback. Wanting a completed resto, don't have the time, space or knowledge for a project. Will be a daily driver for for my 16 yr old son who has fallen in love with the squarebacks he has seen at VW meets. We currently have a 79 Kombi and want to add another vw classic to the family. We have been looking for about 6 months now but haven't seen anything suitable in SE Queensland. We're thinking of flying to Melbourne to look at a couple but thought I'd see if anyone can help us out here first.

I flew to Melbourne from the Gold Coast to have a look at a couple of Squarebacks I've seen on ebay. Both cars looked great in the photos'. One of the cars was at the mechanics getting a road worthworthy so I thought I'd call the guy for an unbiest opinion. He told me the car was like a band new one and he couldn't fault it. Said the paint was excellent and the motor was great.

Well must of been the owners brother or cousin. The paint work was Radar Red original colour but has had a respray, talk about orange peel finish, this was a bush lemon fininsh. The motor was covered in oil and really required an overhaul. The mechanic told me that the roof lining was "beautiful mate". He must of liked the look of a dozen holes in the lining. Guy was asking $6000+ for an ok original '73 square that was ruined by a nasty paint job.

The second car I looked at didn't look took bad and the guy had reconditioned the motor. Interior hadn't been done but things were looking good, until I drove it. Drove like it had 4 square wheels, something seriuosly wrong with the engine rebuild.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm wasting alot of time and expense looking at over priced type 3's in poor condition and some how the owners think there worth a small fortune.

Help me !! I'm willing to pay good money for a good car.

Come on guys!

I'm still looking. Someone must be hiding something in the shed that the wife told you to get rid of years ago!!!

Need to find something this month or I'm forced to buy a Toyota corolla.

We have a late squareback at CVD that is to good to wreck but does need work to become roadworthy .
Is white in colour , and fortunatley or unfortunatly how ever you look at it , it is an auto , but anyone with any knowledge of vws knows thats no bigy to change to a manual box
Motor is a bit of an unknown as this was not a customers car .
Interior is pretty good and body although having had a respray a few years back is still in a factory colour but has had a vynal roof fitted which doesn't look like it hides any sins .
Anyway if your interested please call the below number after 8am Mon or pm me here with your number and we'll talk .

Andrew

I've seen the '72 and the '70. i thought the blue one was going to be good, unfortunately it wasn't anywhere near as good as the photos.

The other white square with the sunroof I cheched out aswell but again wasn't what I was looking for.

The other white one is in WA. So based on my previous experience I'm not that keen on flying over to check it out.

I'll check out the one in Brisbane and see how much work it needs. May have to reconsider trying to find a completed resto and find a good original then work on it over time.

Thanks for looking out for us. Appreciate the reply.
