Head Lining
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a head lining in my bug, I dont really want to go back to the vinyl that is original but I want to go for
some fabric, similar to what on the roof of commodores etc.
I was thinking some insulation down first and then fabric over top, going for a smooth look.
Has anyone done this and have any pics, advice for doing this sort of thing?

ive got velour in mine and its been there for about 6 years. if your going to do it talk to a decent upholster in your area.

do you know much about car upholstery?
the only reason i ask is ive had both the vinyl and my current one fitted and the difference in price was amazing. for what it cost me to buy the
vinyl i had the current one installed which i then had to ether install myself or get installed. both are great jobs.
i know what my limits are and upholstery is one of them.
try talking to one just to get an idea of whats involve in the fitting.

It would be relatively cheap and easy for the upholster. You talking just teh roof? with metal explosed pillars etc?
My dad had to get his commodore hoodlining replaced twice, because the glue had this nasy habit of letting the material go.
Wasn't very pricy at all. and to start from scratch, as long as the slate is clean for the guy to start, i wouldn't even stress doing it yourself.

If you're using a foam backed lining you could glue it directly to the roof and the pillars.

So there isnt any problem with gluing a backing to the roof, and then gluing the fabric to the backing? would you recommend doing something like that
or should i steer clear?

AJ. I thought the Holden headlining you were thinking of was one with a foam backing. There is such a product. Glueing foam/insulation then material
could be ugly. The material I'm thinking of would be easy to apply and give you that smooth/velour look it sounds like you're after. The foam
backing would give you some insulation as well. I'll get some and put up a pic in the next few days.

Oh ok then, I'm only getting some ideas at this stage, doing some research so I know what I want to do with my bug rebuild. I'm a long way off of
doing the interior but I want to have my look organised before I get stuck into the car. I want the interior to work with the exterior and the styles
to reflect each other. But pics would be great.
