Yes they made sliding doors optional after 1964.

This particular van was made in Germany then imported to Indonesia where it spent years working at the airport transporting pilots. Then was imported to Australia a couple of years ago, changed owners once andd then fell into my hands

Is the only KNOWN factory slider in Australia

Tastefully done :tu:
a few modern touches but still retaining that classic charm

Can I just make one observation, those late beetle wiper arms are probably a great safety upgrade (6volt wiper arms SUCK) but they look abit out of place
or is it just me that it glares at?
maybe painted silver instead of black?

There are a number of these in Australia from what I can gather. I have also heard of a local twin-slider split in recent times - it never ceases to amaze me what's out there.

Love the car and the pics. The first pic looks like those videos that guys did that made the news, the time lapse ones that look like they use lego people.

If you go into the Patents office and do a search, you will find the blue prints for the VW bus sliding door dated 1962... Just another bit of useless trivia...
