shock absorber replacement
Can anyone help me regarding where the washers and split washers go in relation to the shoch absorber. Im putting together my chassis and it was a
few years ago since i removed them, and none of my workshop manuals show it. Is it washer first, then shock against the chassis, then split washer,
then nut? Just doesnt look right. If someone can take a photo or a look under their car would be much appreciated. Its a 56 beetle

Hi
Normally its the flat washer then split washer then the nut on top
the spring washer [split] stops the nut from undoing..
and having the shock absorber bush in against the chassis
stops the bush from turning...
and wearing the chassis mounting..

PS: I use nyloc nuts [self locking nuts] on everything except the exhaust... LEE

Well, I did use nyloc nuts on the manifold of a Mitsubishi L300 years ago...
the nylon melts allowing the nuts to come off...
I used spring washers next time...
the heat untempered the spring washers so they lost their tension and the nuts came off again.. lol

Lee,
So the washer isnt against the shocker, the washers are on the other side of the chassis from the shocker?

I will have a look in some of My many manuals
but I believe the bush should go up against the chassis
then on the other side.. Flat - spring /split washer and nut..

PS: I looked for a bolt today to put into a shock absorber
but couldn't find a bolt.. ones I had were too large... LEE
