Do older guards bolt up to a 68?
Hey guys just wondering if older 67 guards bolt up to a 68 bug.
I want the old style headlights rather than 68 ones.

Yup - sure do.
I've got 58 front guards on my 70... gives me the older style headlights and also no blinkers on top of the guards.

Heh - thanks Mustard... amuses me that even if I tell someone exactly what it is, a lot of the time they'll ask "are you sure ?"
Shouldn't be any filling of holes or making news ones required... at least on the front guards the bolts holes line up as is, and 99% sure they will
on the rear too.

I had a 69 bug that I put early guards on, but I also replaced the front and rear valances and used the early bonnet & boot lid as well.....

is it a lot of work to change the front valance?
And what are the differences in bonnets? and the rear deck lid?

Its the reversal of a baja conversion.... not too hard. The earlier bonnet & decklid are a different shape

Hi Stu,
I have also seen later doors on an early beetle... lol
I didn't know that was possible either... windows are larger on the late models..
and Yes, many front guards and rears on many cars have been swapped about....
You can buy new sloping headlamps for the old style guards now too...
with sealed beams or ordinary H4 headlights in them...

I believe the rear engine cover can be switched over too....
although I have never done it... lol
I've seen early lids on late cars and the other way round...
LEE
PS: Bonnets??? I don't know.. I don't think so,,.
but people do have the air vents in the later bonnets welded over... so they look like the early ones... LEE

Cool there are a few different options! I have a 68 with swing Axel rear and balljoint front.
I think I'm going to keep my fat chick guards and just swap the rear tail lights over to 67s
