70 Baja - info needed
Hey, I know I probably shouldn't have bought this, but I did anyway.
After some effort I've got it to run, and with some exploration I can see why the brakes don't work - there's no brake fluid. Now to find out why
there's no brake fluid. Fill it up, bleed, and hope to see the leak.
The brake master cylinder is accessed by removing the fuel tank, right?
I'd like to be able to identify this carb, so that I can get an air filter for it. Any ideas, anyone? and where to get one?

Nice looking Baja, should be a good project!
The master cylinder is under the tank, but it can be reached by jacking the car up and taking the front-right wheel off. There is a gap large enough
to reach the master cylinder. If you do want to take the tank out, it's a bit more work, so you may as well replace the flexible fuel hose from the
tank to the floorpan tunnel while you're there.
The carby looks like a Weber DCN or DCNF to me, or perhaps the Dellorto equivalent. Are there any markings on the carb?

Thanks guys.
There are some markings, just numbers from what I remember. I'll look more thoroughly tomorrow.

I've forgotten to look for markings on the carb. I cleaned all four plugs, they were quite black with being over-rich. What do you expect with a 2L
carb on a 1600...? Now it runs well, amazingly with all four cylnders! I fiddled with the timing a little and it doesn't have so much of a flat spot.
I thought to do the timing properly but it seems that my timing light ain't work. I'll read up in Muir on how to do it static. I drove the kids
around the paddocks this arvo, and they had their turn at driving too. The 12 yo is going well, the 10 yo not far behind.
Now, rather than cluttering with a new post...
What timing am I aiming for? 1600 Twin Port (you probably want to know what engine number, but it is too cold for that now).
I found the Compliance Plate rattling about in the glove box. Where is it meant to go?
and I need a driver's side door... anyone?
and how do you remove the chrome strips properly? as in, so that I can put them back on properly are a respray.

Definitley a progresssive of some sort
you can see the staging link on the side
Cant see the choke on it??
Normally they are an electric or hot water chokes??
Maybe this is a non choke sort??
Does it have heat riser tubes??
Guessing it doesnt if it needs the brace
Going to run like a pig in Oberon with no choke or preheat
and that is in Summer!! (damn that place is cold!!)
Click on a few images and have a read here
