You know your vw is too low when...
...your front beam looks like this, yikes
Saw the pic in a thread on thesamba and had to have a laugh, it was in the type 3 section which is why I've put it here but now I look at it again it
seems like a beetle, funny anyway.
Try going into the shop for an alignment, or complain of funny noises from the suspension and see what they say!

Hi
The Type 3 front end works works well for its intended use, beyond that its not very good.

narrower yes, but at cost of handling.
Adjustable, not as much as a type 3 beam. Just rotate on the spline.
Lighter but weaker.
Airbags?? I Don't know enough about them.
type 3 real torsion "full length" bars are superior over laminated leaf. Better yield strength, elasticity and return characteristics.

narrower doesnt matter if handling not as good, its just done to look cool or have bigg tyres in there, or get tyres in to go lower
adjustabilty without pulling the thing apart..ie ADJUSTERS
like Steve and VW boy said good for there soft ride but beyond is difficult and parts available
remeber as i often say i still don't know shiz tho
