Blew out the cobwebs at MDTC last weekend

Hi All,

I took the oval down to Marulan on the weekend to get acquainted with it again. It's the first time I've had it on the track this year. It was a blast. I've got some in car. I also stopped at an old petrol station, but had to wait ages for fuel. Then the general store was even worse. The milk tasted like it was 50 years old. Notice the high performance chicken wire poking out of the exhaust to keep the noise down at MDTC?"

I tipped the milk into the tank and the car ran better than ever before.

I'm still running the 44IDFs. My tinker time was spent installing the serpentine belt kit, playing around with it to stop the fan rattling and banging like a worn out diesel, giving up and reinstalling he old fan belt.

I think the idle is uneven with the light flywheel which is okay with the stock belt which slips a bit. But the grip and design of the serpentine jerk the fan. Perhaps it's fine with stockers.

The engine is so reliable, easy to drive and makes the car pretty quick. I'm starting to think it'd be a shame to ditch a good combination. The solution may be to sell it and build something completely different. Hmmmm.

I'll attempt to crack 2 mins at Eastern Creek in August then decide.

Mutual pats on the back.

Hey Col,

How's the new job? I watched your Tamworth Hillclimb vid. Your car looks and goes well. Your parents could have a tad more confidence in your navigation skills though.

I might consider doing that hillclimb with you next year. Can you do test days there where you do 1- laps at a time?

Larry says he has a few more tweaks for your donk, err engine.

You gotta love ya mum don,t you.

Actually the vids she took have helped me in my car prep this year.

I,ll let you know when the next local event is on, maybe we can double enter both cars.

Yes Larry has fired a few ideas my way about engine performance. At the end of the racing season we will do a full freshen up & I,ll let Larry loose on the engine.

Cheers Col

PS Seriously cool photo,s

Hi CT

That track really keeps you busy, I cant believe that your car was too noisy. Love the photos.

Hows Gary getting on with the neighbours?

Hello Mr President

Hi Steve,

Congrats on the new appointment.

Garry is going to a lot of effort to keep noise down and be accountable for it. They record at the track all day and he was at the front gate with the noise meter when I ducked out for fuel. 4 or 5 cars had the "chicken wire up the bot" treatment.

He's a top bloke and everyone I saw respects the noise requirements. We want the track to stay. It's awesome.

I didn't bother checking the tyre temps on such a short track. The were hot to touch and picking up lots of stones though. The S compound A050s are over a year old now and they still feel fantastic. I don't think the beetle gives them much stress, being light and low on power. I've only ever worn one set of R-specs down to the tread depth indicators. These things will probably last me 3 years.

Eastern Creek is the next outing. I've got my eye on cracking the 2 minute mark or challenging Bob Mariner's (62 red beetle with VW 1385 number plates) time from over a decade ago of 1:58. But that could be optimistic with the horsepower Eastern Creek needs to get high on the time sheets.

God I rabbit on. What was the question again?

All 4 tyres should get between 60 and 90 degrees.
