Lakeside today

Practiced with my buggy at Lakeside today,,, here`s a little story

well,,,, we had a bit of fun today, but, i made a few little mistakes on our set-up

We changed the exhaust pipe before the last autocross & it was running a little off (missing & farting) from about half way up the rev range right through to the top end, so i just short shifted the gears & kept the revs low at the autocross,,, then intending on fixing that part i decided to en-richen the mixture by fitting bigger main jets,,, & ,.,, well,,, ooops,,, i went the wrong way,,, should have gone leaner ,,, & by a big chunk. The poor thing was coughing & spluttering all the way up the straight & all the way round the back section down to hungry corner

we also had a rather large issue with the gearing,,, coming onto the straight already in 6th gear (top) isn`t really where i want to be,,, i`d much rather pull 6th gear about half way up the straight,,, time for some larger 13inch slicks i`m guessing Smile

there is also another problem with float bowl surge,,, every corner the things floods up with fuel... not good either,,, need to buy the new, you-beauty baffled float bowls made to suit cars

the rear brakes are locking up (still) need an even softer spring in my rear brake limit valve

the wheel alignment could be far better, drop it down some, add some camber & reduce the toe out on the front should help a tad.

the tyres i`m running are approx 25 years old... They`re an old hard-as-concrete set of grooved slicks that we bought from Steve at Brickworks (we only wanted the rims but the tyres came with them so we just left them on) i`m sure they`re at least 20 years old,,, so they`re not working one bit... yeah it`s a little skatey to say the least Smile
fun tho Smile

I`m sure that i could improve on my driving too,,,, i havn`t peddled around Lakeside for 10 years so i was just warming into a slow groove today,,, not wanting to bin it... & just "feeling" out the car as a package

sooooo,,, we have found a good bundle of things to change before we go out there again, but super glad to have run some laps around there,,, it`s been a long while & i miss that track big-time

we spotted John Alder with the big blue Jacked up Kombi duel cab out there plying with his F-Vees, had a good chat, nice fella

anyways,,, first session (8 Laps) started warming things up at 1min7secs & came down to 1min 5secs,,,, then in the 2nd session (7 Laps) i got down to 1min 2.5 secs quite consistently so i`m rather happy with that, considering all the crap that`s wrong with the thing Smile

so we packed her up onto the back of the Kombi & drove home to a counter meal at the Colmslie pub Smile

cheers.... who`s keen t come next time???
Matt
