I just replaced my carb, new (second hand) one had one on but I didn't know what it was as the original didn't have one, turned out it had been removed and the hole plugged, so maybe you don't need it.

It cuts off the fuel when You turn the ignition off..

many are cut off and made to stay open so the fuel can flow all the time...

so, not really needed...

but You cannot have nothing in the hole... as fuel will pour out.. probably easier to get a second hand one...

Everyone seems to be missing the fact that it's a type3 twin carb so it's not just the cut off solenoid.

the broken brass bit at the base is actually the idle jet, twin solexs plug the actual jet rather than the passage like most singles do with the plunger

the jet mounted cutoff solenoids can be a bit harder to find but when I was running my twin PDSIT carbs like that i just ran straight idle jets, with no solenoid

If your timing and mixtures are right you don't need them

The reason why there is an electric fuel cut off at the carby is that if your fuel tank is full and you park the car front up, on a steep hill, the fuel can leak through the carby into the engine. The last thing you want is engine oil diluted with petrol.

Much as I dislike both the fuel cut off and the automatic choke, I disable the choke and live with the cut off.

The reason the electromagnetic cut-off jet was used was to eliminate "run on" when the engine was turned off. It was on the single type 3 carb from the start but was added later to the twin carb setup to stop any run-on problems. Due to the heavy weight of the electromagnet they were prone to loosening and wearing of the jet thread and seat in the carb from engine movement which in turn causes tuning problems.

If there's any fuel flowing into the engine due to nose up, it is caused by one or both float needle/seat leaking resulting in flooding. This has nothing to do with the idle jet.

Do I use them on the type 3? .... no. They were the cause of quite a few headaches in the 60s-80s so I still remember that! I usually cut the electric bit off and solder the end up. As said previously it is the idle jet so needs to be there, just doesn't need the cut-off part. If it wants to run on, put it in gear and let the foot off the clutch a bit to load the engine a bit as you turn ignition off.

Ratified, do you want two of them? PM where you live. You can have them if you want them.

As a matter of fact it is a pilot jet with shut off capability...they are available new... / George / ...if not available, just use standard / .55 / pilot jet out of any Solex carby...early carbies on the T3 did not use solenoids at all, later models did..
