Porsche Cayenne?
What are people thoughts about the Cayenne?
Wife has always loved one but dont know too much about them.
Which is the best year to buy? Best engine? Any problems that are common?
Should i keep away?

I have no answers to your questions, sorry.
What I do know thou, is that cars like the Cayenne were expensive to maintain when they were new. Althought the price of older Cayennes have come
down, the maintenance costs are still the same. It is the same on all of the higher end European cars, whether it be a 7 series BMW, Cayenne, big Benz
etc.
If you have the tools and expertise to maintain the Cayenne yourself, then disregards what I have said.
Good luck with your search.

More expensive than a Volkswagen Touareg, which is the same platform and even built in the same factory (in Slovakia). Why buy a Porsche when you can
have a Volkswagen?
The VW Touareg V10 TDI has been discontinued on the updated model (due soon), so a low-mileage used one would be a good collectors' car for the VW
enthusiast.
Then there's the high-performance Touareg R50. With a tuned 5-litre V10 TDI making 265 kW and 750 Nm, it's the most powerful Volkswagen ever sold in
Australia.

Dino's got a Touareg Costa - he of Pizza fame. Dropped us home in it once, and it was gorgeous. I can't speak of the reliability side of things, but
it was very well equipped.

I thought the R50 had 850 NM of torque, why buy a cayenne when you can have the R50.
This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

Factory Warranty is good, but that doesn't pay the service costs or wearing items like brakes etc. Factory warranty = Authorized service only.
Ring a Porsche service department and ask how much a service is.

go with the R50. Still a few new ones floating around in dealers.Very nice car to drive!! I do know that I would get the Toureg over the Cayenne as
that little shield on the bonnet adds a hell of a lot to the price of parts and service. for instance the Cayenne turbo badge on the rear aint cheap
to replace so my boss at work has told me. One of our sites broke one and he didn't get much change out $650.....

If I had the money I'm sure I'd be happy with either, but really... I'd go the Touareg since the Cayenne will always suffer from that "yeah, but
it's not a real Porsche" factor.
Have driven an R50, and what an awesome bit of kit... put the boot into and span all 4 wheels on launch.... boy did that put a stoopid big grin on my
face !!!

The V10 TDi should have the following warning:
Do not engage low range when on any island smaller than Tasmania.
The ground won't be able to take it!

Im currently looking at replacing my triton diesel with a Touareg, Personally I would Love the V10 but i dont think that will be happening
My gut tells me to be wary of the air suspension models as they are costly to repair when they do eventually fail ( like they did in my P38 rangy)
From everyone that i know that has a Touareg they have been great cars... obviously dont buy an early model as they would have issues

Yes i have a Touareg its the v6 petrol, if I had my time again I would get the Turbo.I looked at the Cayenne and I could not see the 30 grand
differance in pricing at that time.Cost of maintaning, brakes F/R approx $2500,gear box service $400,regular engine service average $300.I only have
the gearbox serviced thru Vdub, the rest I have done aftermarket. The car has done 100000ks now and have only done the brakes once.I hope this
helps..
cheers Dino....
if it looks like crap smells like crap then guess what!!!!!

Nope, no 2-door bodies, the Touareg is only available in a 4-door body.
The UK already has the updated 2010 Touareg on sale, but we won't get it until the end of the year. You might get to see it at the Sydney Motor Show
in October.
In the top model the V10 TDI has been discontinued, and replaced by a 4.2-litre V8 TDI that makes 255 kW and 800 Nm. That's enough for 0-100 in 5.8
sec and a top speed of 240 km/h, but still get 9.1 L/100 km combined cycle. It has an 8-speed auto and can tow 2.3 tonnes.
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/touareg-nf/
I suppose an 'R' version of this will appear in due course...

i would of said go the Porsche, but after that last photo and my recent experience of buying a new VW go the touareg...
On the Cayenne, by mother law used to have one, with the V8, it was really great was expensive to service but you got the option of another car... and
at a porsche dealership thats pretty good. Porsche Centre Sydeny South and one in melbourne are the only company owned shops in Aus, the rest are
franchises, so I would think they can provide a better car and service if not on price.
The cayenne though proved reliable, she owned one of the first ones to come to Australia and only sold it this year (bought a SLK 55 AMG), the only
problem she had to my knowledge was a coolant light that kept coming on, however she continued driving and nothing bad happened. The other good thing
with Porsche is their service we had a tyre blow on us on the way to the snow, so between Cooma and Jindabyne at 150kph it blew had to get the car
towed back to cooma and porsche got us to thredbo. The down side of it is though that the tyres availability is low and prices are high, as with alot
of Parts i'd assume...
after that ramble.... go with the VW
