No.8 Beetle re-build

About another week or so, and it should be ready for some paint - I'm waiting for solar heater to start working again, and the wind to stop.

Posting pics is a struggle, and if I manage to find an easy way to do so, I will. Meanwhile I'll stick to the easy stuff - repairing the rusty Beetle shell, and welding in the roll cage etc.

Hoping not to find much mechanical damage, as it looks OK - except for the f....ing broken brake drum. Using GENUINE VW drums now.

Thanks again to those people who have helped out along the way, particularly Steve Muller, his brother Adrian, Rod Penrose, John Fabiszewski, etc.

Cheers, Greg

On the road again....

Good on ya Greg.

Are you building a better mouse trap, or just a safer one?

Same mousetrap - only a fair bit heavier, thanks to the roll-cage. May have to squeeze a bit more out of the engine, but don't want to risk making it unreliable, as it has been running sweetly for over 3 years. Still a bit more in the suspension tuning though, I think.

Cheers, Greg

Email me some and I will post them up for you, if you like.

Listen Gary, I'm not putting those new-fangled disc things things on, OK:lol: And what's this 'short' bussiness? Oh well, I am now - after the whack on the head. I think that I lost at least 1" - and also I'm not as tall.

Kev (camo) will post some pics for this poor old fella, won't you Kev?

Listen Gary, just behave yourself. and I'm too busy painting No. 8 right now to be mucking about with photos. I managed to fluke one a while back, but I don't know how, so when I get a bit of time, the photo thing will happen - just stop picking on me:fakesniff:

How's your car coming along?

I have seen this car in the flesh, gunna be a good car, lots of body work has been done, just goes to show how lucky some of us are to be able to have the good cars.

We also disscussed the disc brake option and greg has some perfectly good reasons not to want to use them.

Cant wait to see it out and about on the track

Jeez Greg you have put a lot of effort into the "NEW 8" Good call with the later door locks and strikers. Is that your shed you are working in? Just beautiful.I am still plodding along with mine-2 steps forward, three backwards. There were some serious faults with the Autocraft engine I bought for it,so have stripped it for a full rebuild. Now it's apart,I have decided to turbo it,so can fit a turbo grind cam. Those heads I got from Geers-I have had them rebuilt,so it will breathe well.Sanchez has done well with buying Rods old car-he probably won't need most of the stuff he bought on the trip.Did you ever get all the parts you needed from Chucks' to finish the soft top car you were restoring?Cheers Gary.

That would work:smilegrin: It's ' low oil pressure ', but in that position it would be ON for sure.

What I really would like is a ' Brake drum about to fail ' warning light.
