Polished patina?

Hey guys,

Anyone know whats involved in creating a nice polished patina finish like on this bug? I have even seen them shinier all over , is it just a lot of cut and polish ? or is there more likely a clear lacquer coat over the top of it all ?

Anyone got any experience trying to achieve this finish over OG paint?

Thanks Ben.

I believe it's a lacquer on it. But I don't have too much experience with it. I know people also put fish oil on there to preserve the patina and make the water 'bead' and run off. But I find fish oil very sticky!

P.s: I think I know what you're up to ;)

Have heard of people using lanolin also, but yeah - my guess would be that it has a clear coat on it.

Either way... totally dig those crotch coolers !!!

My girlfriend would get so mad at me.
Unless it was racing modification weight reduction. -14 pounds of paint.
I always thought rust would bubble under clear lacquer.

On my '60 bug with OG paint I use fish oil generously applied with a rag then wait till it is completely dry (which it does, not sticky or smelly) takes about a week. Then I rub with a soft towel and it comes up just like that bug shown, I do this because of the high price of other waxes. It is surprisingly good!

I used a scotch brite pad and then two coats of Acylic Clear straigh over the top. It has been 9 months out in the waether.
