ok so steady progress, i have been working on the heater channel.. so i started up front near the A pillar to patch a hole (my first intentions were to patch the heater channel) so i got that done, but then i opened up the rear right quarter panel to replace it(near the drivers door) and found a sorry sight, even if i patched it it would be structualy unsound. SO i grabbed a heater channel that we had laying around hehe and started grafting in the heater outlets so they are in the right place

putting the new heater channel in next weekend! so exitement

I think it is fantastic that you are taking on all of this at a young age :tu:

What you will learn will be very helpful through life and I wish I had of learnt body work, rust repairs when I was young.

But I bet my wife is glad I didn't, as I would want many more cars that I have to say 'no' to as they need work that I cant do.

Well done young fella and keep it up ;)

Kev

I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

more patching, at the start of doing this small repair i started with a patch about the size of a ciggy lighhter, in the end i had to replace all that you can see here because the metal was to thin to weld from rust!

ahhhhhhhh

Ahh the joy's of rust repair....your doing a very pro job, well done. As you've mentioned it takes about ten times the time you expect and your finished metal work looks great. :tu:

All good mate, I know how it is, but you seem to have a good garage and other family volksie dudes to help. I started my adiction very early too. Had my first engine torn down and repaired when I was 12. Beach buggies in the bush or on properties was the go back then. Your bug is going to be a ripper, keep up the good work, it's a long road to enjoy :)

stratos silver - nice colour choice. Was the colour my 54 was going to be before I changed direction. USA only 1954 colour if I remember. Has a nice flip from dark blue to silver in the light.

check out the DODGY ASS repair done on the decklid mount, also check the repair i made. took me 4 hours total!

Hi mate. Keep up the good work. I'm from Bunbury and remember that beetle from Kevin's workshop. I often wonder where it ended up and glad it stayed local. There was also a split icecream truck there but that's another daydream.

Anyhow, i'm returning to the South West soon with my Splitty (under resto) and hope to catch you cruising the mean bunno streets.

Dude! Good to meet you man, I can promise this oval is going to get the treatment he deserves, I guess it must be an amazing feeling to stumble upon a build thread of a car you have wondered about, I still have a close connection with kev, I'm buying parts from America for him for his splitty restoring , once we have both finished our projects we should deff go for a cruise around bunno!

Haven't looked for a while. You are making a really good job of the body.

I wish I had your skills :tu:

Good luck with finding some early guards. I have 2 sets and they are all rubbish. The amount of panel beating and repair required is no joy at all.
