Give me a call, I can get you onto a set of 54 guards in glass. The glass ones are moulded from my 54 steel mint originals. i might be persuaded to sell the steel ones.
Interestingly I sampled Stratos silver for my beetle also. It is a lovely colour, very dark in the shadows but can sparkle to a light purple silver in the sun. Have you tested it on a guard yet?
Do it before you paint. You'll be suprised.

Looking fantastic, good work, im 14 to and just finished restoring a Historic Formula vee for Historic racing. I know the feeling of not having the money and not being able to earn much:fakesniff: but it'll get there. POR 15 is great stuff, i coated my whole chassis and suspension in hardnose blue and sterling silver, it gives a great finish cannot reccomend it enough.

Follow link for pic of my car at rob roy hillclimb in may this year (me driving) : http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d164/chequer57/_MG_0516_LOWRES.jpg

cheers, Grant :)

thanks everyone, oh yeah that exhaust system sounds the bomb!

thanks grant, you FINISHED it by the time you were 14? wow:tu:, that thing looks like so much fun  its a 1200 right? man top job on that, and yeah about the money thing.. or should i say the lack of, its alright though i have a channel on youtube which has ads around the video which makes me money $$$ around $50 a week plus the money i earn weekly, so money isn't really a concern i just love the metal work aspect of this build..

POR 15 = great shit, i dream about the day i have the chassis coated with it and a whole bunch of parts ready to be fittted haha

cheers,

Yep 1200, geee i should start finding a way of making more money than just washing the odd car or seven! The 1200 is only blueprinted, balanced, lightly ported, and finely tuned to get every bit out of it (the regulations are very strict) But they still get around Eastern Creek in 1:57's and Phillip Island i suspect maybe breaking 2 min (the better drivers among us though) What carbies are you gonna run and how much lift do you have on the cam?(if ya can remeber! lol) Good luck with the rest of the build, keep us posted......

Cheers,

Grant

Well done x2, fantastic job, very impressed with the quality of your work. I must say though Marcus, the end of rust repairs is still a long way yet to the end of the bodywork, but a milestone none the less. :)

good on you for persisting through rust repairs.:tu::tu:

Now the repairs are done, it's time to get the body straight. You going to file finish?

That is great!
Looking the goods so far, can't wait to see this with the Type 4 in!

This whole thread is great, just read it through again and am genuinely glad I did.
Flintstones is right, many "kids" would have given up on the rust repairs, but you, you repaired them wonderfully!

thanks everyone, i still havnt finished the rust repair sections, there are a few little spots but thats it,

i cant express how many times i have thought of giving up, so many barricades. but hell, once this thing is done, im sure it will all be worth it.
i want to give the blasting business (stripped bare soda blasting perth) some credit, i walked away from that car knowing its in good hands, sure enough it was a fantastic job

well guys, im gonna stop talking, drink a coffee chill, clean the shed and then get back to work on it

It's the art of using a dolly and hammer to adjust the panel and using a body file to let you know if you have adjusted it enough to make the panel straight.
This way you don't have to use bog (plastic filler) to fill in area's that should have been adjusted.

Hope I explained it clearly for you.

ohh, well i dont think this car will require "thick" amounts of filler, just lots of small areas with thin filler on it, because someone has already dollied out the dents, and they did it to a good qaulity so i will just re apply the filler in the areas needed.

Hey mate,
I really like your thread and your bug. Cant wait to see it finished!
Are you going to be using semaphores? if so do you think you'll put other little blinkers?
Just wondering if it's legal to just use the semaphores.

Hey Mate, looks great.
You should Test the Stratos Silver on a test panel before you paint your whole car in it.
I tested it and it looks great in the sun but personally thought it hides the great lines of an early beetle in the shadows. Just a thought.
Also what are the gaps on either side under the backseat inbetween the guard inners and where the firewall comes down. Never seen this before.
My oval joins the bottom section of the firewall to the guard inners.
Anyway, keep up the great work.

i will be putting some blinkers up front and back and have a switch to switch from flashing blinkers to semaphores so i can spare using the semaphores if i dont want to

it is legal to just have semaphores as it was orginally equipped on the car

You should look up KBS. It's Oz version of Por15 and just as good yet a fair bit cheaper. Did my floorpan in the stuff and it's great :)

Hi mate, I have been watching your build on here and on NoH2O also..... A sweet car in the makings, no doubt about it.

Your metal skills are very impressive for a dude your age... I did my first bug at 17 with my old man and none of my welding was as good as yours.

You still looking to sell the 59 ?

For the rear cargo area you'll have to make them yourself. Far as I'm aware the cargo/bulkhead panel comes as an entire panel.
Try VW Heritage in the UK as they have a full listing of all Beetle parts. If they don't have it then no one will, well maybe West Coast or CIP1 but thats about it.

Quite easy to make tho. Bit of 0.8mm steel and make a cardboard template. For the lip that goes up the rear arch you just pie cut and bend it up and then weld the pie cuts back together. Also means you aren't using 0.6mm brazilian crap. :)

hi t54, the rear apron was made by a man by the name of wolf. you can now find them here http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1020614
the rear qaurters were made by a company called kdf parts, tho i would recommend these ones: http://www.wolfparts.com/shop/index.php?cPath=21&sort=4a&page=2&o...
because i found that kdf parts one had a bad fit, to hard to explain

hey psimitar, a good fellow has cut them out of his car and sent them to me, better original metal :punk:
