Thanks Mate. I am not using my own profile to post this next reply due to it being locked out of AVDS for some reason. I have contacted the forum admin to see how i can get it restored.

So the engine was given a nice bath at the local carwash.

This time around i used some RTV sealant to try and seal the top of the crankcase up a bit better. Hopefully it will not be a source for oil leaks anymore.

The engine shroud was bolted back on.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q90/922/uSIpjg.jpg

From there the engine was run up on the test stand and tuned. It turned out that the source of the rough running was due to two of the idle circuit mixture screws giving a false sense of "seating". When i thought that the idle mixture screw had seated correctly (critical for tuning process), what was actually going on was that the screw spring was fully compressing. Once that issue was fixed, every cylinder started to properly respond to adjustment of the mixture screw.

Whilst tuning the engine i believe i disturbed the accumulation of dirt in the bowl of the webers, i kept having issues where the idle jets would clog themselves after giving the engine some reving (more fuel load).. I pulled both carbs apart and cleaned them out with a petrol wash. All was sweet after that.

The engine was running tickety-boo after all the tuning was completed. Nice idle, great cold starts, good throttle response. It was time to put the engine back in.

The rear half of the fuel system was completely re-plumbed. Instead of the previous rubber fuel line, the rear half of the car recieved 1/4 inch stainless line and olive fittings tied all together with an industrial hydraulic fitting sealant.

The last missing piece rocked up on my front door at just the right time, the transaxle input shaft seal!

Somewhere among all this work i also reinforced the rear sheet metal section near the shock towers. A previous me has cut away at the body to clearance the kafer brace. I had every intention to come back in good time and do this reinforcement however it got away from me, and after driving the car for 5 years i am finally getting it done lol.

These brackets may look like overkill however the forces that need to be reacted are in unusual directions, that and the whole system needs to work around the shock absorber... this is why it was made out of 5mm plate.

all painted and bolted in:

There car is back on the road now. I have had a oxygen sensor plugged in to the exhaust with a live read out in the cabin. Returning 13 at idle and 12.5 at WOT. (approx).

I have found that there is a flat spot while gradually accelerating. I will do some research and possibly fiddle with the accelerator pumps.

Enjoy the photos.
