Bosch alternator
Can anyone please tell me if the alternator that I have purchased with numbering K1 14V 23/51A could possibly be a 75 amp alternator as I believe it
is probably a 51 amp alternator.
Is there anyway if it is a 51 amp alt that it could be upgraded to 75 amp?
Thanks
John

No not really. Unless to machine the housing of the alternator shorter to fit a wider stator and also upgrade the rectifier. Not worth the time or
effort, that is if it can even be done.

thanks for that info but are you able to tell me at all if with that labelling it means 51 amps { as thats kind of how it looks to me , but I'm
definately no auto electrician,}, as I was reading somewhere that I would have to beef up my wiring for a 75 amp
thanks for your help - seems pretty hard to find out otherwise - have tried googling but seem to hit blanks on 75 amp alternaters
cheers

Pretty sure the 51A does mean 51 Amp's.... that's how it works for sure with Bosch generators (don't have a Bosch alternator nearby to check, and
you're right about googling it)
On the wiring... well whether a stock charging wire will be an issue with a 75A can't say for sure, but if it was my car, well that wire would be
getting upgraded... pretty simple job if the battery is still in the standard spot.

Same alternator as mine, and Im 100% certain mine is a 90Amp alternator. Put 1 and 1 together and its easy to see the A follows the AMP output. But
you've already figured that out

Hi John
All VW beetle alternators are 51 amps.. at 14 volts..
that's over 600 watts output..
which is fine for most people...
You can buy 75 amp alternators new...
as they were never installed in beetles as standard equipment..
with a 75 amp alternator, You would need to use larger cables from the alternator to the battery, and from the battery to whatever is going to use all
those extra Amperes...
like a large Amplifier etc...

That is the first 55 ampere alternator on a beetle I have seen..

PS: 55 is the size of many other OE alternators..

Lee, it may be true that its the first 55 ampere alternator you have seen..... but you have actually seen that photo before.
