Hi Steve,
are the returns on the top corner where the breathers normally are?

I thought about going this way, was less work than getting an intake pump setup to work.

How much extra capacity you reckon you've gained?
You hardly need it with a subi though.

I got from here to bris, around the city and back again with 5.5L left out of 40L a couple of weeks ago and that was with A/C on which kills economy at stop/start traffic lights.

my 1776 with webers or the blower would be half way through its 2nd tank by then

Hi

The returns on are on the front left edge of the tank, my surge tank will mount just below them on the what's left of the boot floor.

I saw an interesting washer bottle on a Tarago today, the model with the hidden motor, the shape looks like it would fit really neatly where the factory one is now, more Jap crap in our cars.

I'm going to run headlight washers, I already have all the stuff to do it when I was going Xenon headlights so I thought why not, the stock bug washer bottle would empty out quickly. I have a Land Rover disco pump (wonder how long that will last), 911 jets for the bumper and a 911 valve which is the same as a Beetle one.

Steve

PS, I think I maybe gained a about 4 litres, but while the tank was there I thought that it was good thing to do.

Hi

We have paint. The car is now at the Cools Trim next door getting a headlining, should be on the pan and back home by Christmas Eve, yippee.

I fitted the first part today, my bee sting ariel.

I dug all the dreaded foam out of the shell, I've saturated the area with Lanolin and stuck wool offcuts in all the cavities.

Looking great Steve I reckon that colour looks great with Black wheels, just like this one which is one of my favourite germanlook cars:-

Looking forward to seeing all your clever neat little touchs to be added from here on.

I agree with matara, that photo he put up looks bloody hot and gives us an idea of how yours will look Steve.

What's the idea with the wool, does it keep the lanolin in ?????

Hi

That car is beautiful, I've never seen it before, the colour looks very similar.

I had my wheels done in silver as I still hadn't made up my mind about colours then.

The wool is to cut down noise, the foam was installed as sound barrier.

Hi

I believe that the heat from the motor will keep the wool dry and it should breath unlike the foam, neither my sons bug or my bug will get driven in the rain unless its absolutely necessary, that's what Jap cars are for lol.

Rich, I'm seeing some light at the end of the tunnel now, can't wait to drive it.

Hi Steve

I kept all the old brakes from my yellow bug, they will be going back on, 996 rears on the front with 930 turbo rotors, Boxster rears on the rear with 944 rotors.

I have 18x8 Simmons OM wheels in Porsche pattern, I posted pictures in the 1st page.

Just got in from painting the pan, needed a beer and a sit down before going to bed, it 2.16 am yikes.

Hi

I've ran out time to get my pan finished to drop the body on, everything is closing up today, so I will concentrate on the pan and pickup the body on the 4th, I have nowhere to store the body over the break. I really underestimated the work involved in getting the pan finished.

Cools Trim did a great job on the hood lining, its off white and really looks good with orange paint.

Steve

PS the wires poking through at the back are for an rear interior light, just like a splitty, removing the light will give me access to bee sting antenna mounting nut.

Headlining looks great. Was it a custom job, or did they just fit an aftermarket kit that you supplied?

Hi

Thanks ES, not too goping I hope LOL.

I've been working on the chassis a fair bit, I filled in the cut out bits, mounted the 944 handbrake cable brakets.

I made a sort of Kafer Cup bar, some eBay UK rose joints about $65 and some Molly tube $50 a bit of welding and some nuts and bolts.

hi Steve, great to see such progress. Colour is perfect and the wheels will really compliment. As for the big ass tail, let me know if you want to get rid of it as mine is only a single lip version and I think I could do with more down force on Boris's old car, which is now painted and being assembled.... (will post a thread soon)

.A question you you???? are you going to run mechanical gauges or electric?

Hi Lou

Welcome aboard. I'm going to run all VDO electric gauges, with the exception of an EBoost 2 and a SPA speedo.

Get busy and do a build thread on your car

Hi Steve,

About the tail. Not sure if you remember the problems with rear-end lift on my old Sports Sedan? At the end of the straight at Amaroo Park, the back was lifting about 2 inches (sorry,50.8mm) - even with an extended lip on the (Bruce Butler) whale-tail. As you probably know, the VW shape is the problem. Rear down force at high speed is great, but watch out for understeer on high speed corners. Then comes the front!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers, Greg

P.S. Sorry, couldn't resist correcting the Pom.

Hi Greg

I remember when you fitted the tail, it made an improvement, if I remember correctly it really helped with stability going over the hill at Amaroo before the right hander. I will have to watch the front end as well.

You just don't like POMS because that's where Minis came from, ES most likely is not a fan of Minis anyway.
