Hi

I put the body on the pan today and brought the car home.

I ran out of time to fit any panels, still plenty to do over the weekend.

I completely stuffed up the rear suspension ride height, its pain because its so easy to alter when the body isn't in the way.

I moved the brake master cylinder over to the right 30 mm so that I could fit the clutch master next to it.

Hi Seve,
Weary of sounding like a dickhead... do vwrx bugs do good burnouts? I have seen quite a few conversions on the net and thought there would have been some guys keen on donuts...I'm sure there is power to burn but is there too much weight being RR is it too much stress on the components? I have really enjoyed reading your posts and Joels. Keep up the great work looks like it will be special ride when finished.

Hi

Joel, I was in hurry to get the car out the panel shop, guy was waiting to go home.

Aussie Dubbin, Jak does some good skids with his car, most rexy bugs run Type 1 gearboxes, these limit the amount of abuse that can be given to the driveline. My car has a G50 Porsche transmission, it should handle the power output OK. I didn't build this car just to do burnouts, I want to use for a few speed events and going to interstate car shows etc, I might have a crack at the 1/4 mile.

Jaks lights up those fat back tyres quite nicely.
I've done it a couple of times by accident with the same size tyres but if Im gonna do it on purpose some stock rims spin nicely but it's murder on the tranny

Looking great there Steve. A good feeling when you see them coming together after being apart for a few years or more, I too am having that buz at the moment. There is no race, but you will definitely have yours up and running before me. But you are also on a time frame with your engineer. Enjoy the re-building and keep the photos coming.

Thanks Kevin, I've just came in from a big night in the garage, its 1.35 am, been painting some chassis and suspension pieces I forgot about and I reset the rear end a bit higher, I also worked on some heat shielding on the firewall.

Hi

Another big night, it takes its toll after working all day at the day job as well.

Fitted some new rotors to my 996 rear brakes that I use on the front. I originally had extreme cross drilled rotors, I'm sure the engineer wouldn't have liked them, these rotors and hubs were originally on the Dak to the Future car.

I've also ran all new soft & hard brake lines. I'm thinking about moving my bake fluid reservoir down lower nearer to master cylinder along with the clutch master, I hate the tube arrangement that RHD bugs got.

Is this anal? I went and ran a torque wrench over all chassis bolts.

Hi Steve,

Been having a peek at your build, very nicely done if I may say so. As for using a torque wrench on the chassis bolts, to me, thats a standard operating procedure. I personally always use a torque wrench to tighten bolts/nuts, heck I even torque up my oil drain plug bolts and retaining plate nuts on my 73 squareback.

Keep going with the torque wrench :cool:

looking good Steve, seems we are racing each other even before we hit the track!! I am planning to have mine ready by nationals but you seem to have pulled ahead a bit over the last 2 days. The rain up here is holding me up a bit....

I think they were speed holes in the old rotors. I'm getting a similar brake setup for mine, probably overkill with the 1600 though!!! should look nice under the boxter rims though :lol:

Hi

No photos yet, I've been busy. I have all the mudguards on and beaded, doors fitted and not finished off, fitted the subi wiring loom, ported the exhaust manifolds and fitted the headers, fitted the intercooler and plumbback for the blow off valve, finished off the insulation on the inner firewall, ran the morse accelerator cable through the chassis and Leigh came around today and helped me fit the front and back windows, started making making a bracket to hold the master cylinder reservoirs in place, fitted the flex line to the clutch slave cylinder, then I had to go to work.

Also mucked around with the oil pressure gauge T piece, thanks for the advice Joel

Hi

Thanks JVL.

Today I made up brackets for the radiator and inter cooler radiator, finished the bracket for the master cylinder reservoirs, started mounting the ECU and various relays, ran the front to back coolant lines, mounted the Carter lift pump and did a solo bleed on the brakes and clutch, I got a good pedal on the clutch and the brakes will need another bleed.

I went to Pirtek and got them to make a T and line to mount the oil pressure sender.

PS I forgot to say that I lined the engine bay with some house type insulation and covered it with XR6 type insulation which I bought from Repco
