If it makes you feel better, I'll admit that last week while grinding in my right rear fender area, the grinder caught and shot itself down on my custom bent hard brake line and put a nice hole in the tube. Looks like I get to buy that part again...

Hi

Years ago I was drilling a hole under my pan and drilled though the edge of the battery. The battery was 7 years old and I was always bragging about how old it was.

Stuff ups are just part of the fun, if we wanted an easy life we would all drive white falcondores.

Hi Steve, Even more years ago, I was helping Jack Bono with his 356 race car. He was drilling a hole in the floor, and to maintain his balance, he put his hand under the floor, and promptly drilled a neat hole THROUGH HIS HAND.:grind: Jack's hand healed up - pity your fuel tank won't.:sniffle:

Years ago (before cordless drills), a bloke I knew was drilling a hole in the bottom of the car door (not a VW) to let the water out. Of course, the water rand down into the electric drill, and he woke up against the fence (lucky he DID wake up).

While were are on the subject of drills, this is non car related, I was drilling a phillips head screw into a wall and the drill slipped and the phillips bit was kind enough to twist and tear up my thumb, that was not fun. All of this really goes to prove that no matter what we are working on, take safety precautions, gloves, eyewear, jackstands, keep your workspace clean, etc.

Jeff, your story reminds me of a sparky mate that drained his Manx pan as it filled during a qld summer storm. He put his power drill inside a plastic bag and drilled the hole. Still don't know how he managed to not 'hit the fence' too.

Oh topic.....sorry Steve, car is looking super....so to speak :)

I wouldn't like to think just how many supers have had holes drilled in thier tank. Our old shop had a car sound joint nearby.......I think they managed to f@%$up every beetle one way or another.....oops, that's another story. Keep up the good work.

I drilled 2 holes, only one hit the tank, 50 50 chance I guess. The tank is very close to the dash area.

I've been building the great wall of Carter again, I've been sorting out the wiring loom for the bug, it really does your head in.

Leigh is sending a few tippers of fill around on Monday so I need to go a bit higher to hold it all.

Hi

Been doing a bit today on the bug. Fitted up the pod filter, you can see that I've altered the direction of the turbo inlet tube, it would normally go of to the left of the car, I cut and turned the silicone tube and fitted the billet AFM housing, I made a bracket to support it all using the power steering bracket.

I also fitted a braided line with a tee piece to relocate the oil light switch and oil pressure sender to a better location.

Hi

JVL, I posted photos of the wing earlier on page 1, I'm waiting for the top wing section to be made, it look better with it on.

Dub_Life, its a cheapy air filter I bought from Brad at Westside, he did testing on these units for one of the ricer mags and they out flowed many more expensive items.

I fitted my Grimmspeed oil separator today, they screw onto the stock Subi oil filler, the idea is to prevent oily residue going into the inter cooler and intake manifold. The 2 outer tubes bring oil vented air from the PCV and valve covers, the centre tube sends only fresh air to the inlet tube on turbo inlet tube.

Yeah thats the one and I've read that article on there flow etc Apparently no carbon fibre in the country at the moment.... Does westiside still have them in stock?

Not sure if it definitely would definitely be a problem but I would be tempted to rubber isolate the AFM housing as the sensor would be liable to vibration damage over time...
Could you drill and tap your pressure sender 'T' for a brake bleed nipple to bleed the air out?

Hi Rich

The AFM housing is mounted pretty solid now, its not clear in the picture but I have a decent piece of angle steel holding it in place.

I haven't fitted my Autronic SM4 ECU but it has its own internal MAP sensor so the Subaru sensor becomes redundant.

When I get it running I will see if I get any unusual oil pressure warnings due to an airlock, I hope not.

Hi

I fitted my Grimmspeed turbo heat shield today, it needed a bit of modification to clear my Kafer Cup brace. I also took the opportunity to line inside it with some left over XR6 heat shielding.
