subaru wiring to kombi
I'm doing the subaru conversion.
I have a full set up of wiring in a box for a 2006 forester that I want to go into my kombi.
Does anyone have info on how to modify this or know of anyone who could do this on the Sunshine Coast?

Or buy the factory cd from Subaru and do it yourself if you're that way inclined.. If youre not confident in electrical systems, I'd go with joels
suggestion.

If this is for a 2006 - I would definitely send to AMAUTO. That is a fairly late model and subaru starts to integrate a lot of things like dash and
ABS inputs into the ECU. For the few hundred from AMAUTO it is well worth it.
If you start it and stuff it - AMAUTO won't touch it.

Youre right in that the ecu takes dash, a/c, and a plethora of other inputs but the motor will run fine without them. It will need the security module
and corresponding transponder key, the VSS that is talked about in another thread and some good understanding of electrical principles. If this sounds
scary, get the pro's to do it.

Now I have problems. Been told by amaut that because it is a 2006 there is a good chance it won't work.
Apparently I need to get a pre 2004 manifold and harness due to the drive by throttle.
Has anyone had one done?

Do you have a "drive by wire" motor? Is it a DOHC NA 2.5ltr? I have an 06 Impreza 2ltr and they thought it was "drive by wire" until I assured
them it wasn't.... I ended up wiring mine myself. Those guys are the pros though. Perhaps post a pic?
If you need parts, call/email Andrew at Sunspares. He's very reasonable and knows what he's talking about.

You'll be right mate.
Here are your options.
1/ As AM Auto said, you could buy an earlier manifold. If you're not competent to change those over, you'll need a mechanic (or someone that knows
what the're doing) to do it. Mechanic = $$$$
Then, get an earlier harness, ignition switch/barrel and ECU etc. You could get this stuff from Sunspares. They're knowledgable and very reasonable.
Even still, that will probably cost around $400 - $500. Send newly purchased harness to AM Auto and they'll take care of the rest.
So, ring Sunspares, ask for Andrew. Get a price for a circa 06 intake manifold, wiring harness, Ign barrel and key and security module.
2/ Sell what you have complete and buy a non "drive buy wire" motor with harness and bits etc. This way, you shouldn't have to fork out too much
more as you're "swapping" motors. You'll obviously still need AM auto to rewire the new loom though..

Thanks for the help mate.
I am still unsure what too do, I have found a 2003 liberty 2.5lt with about 150 000 on the clock for $1500.
Or can get the manifold and electrices by themselves for $1000.
I am also going to look at the motek ecu and see how that will go with cost etc.
Decisions decisions...
