what's original
Is there any where that I can reference to find out what would be the original kit to any given motor, ie, given an engine number what would the
original carbie, dizy etc be.

Well vw54, that's where I continualy come unstuck, it's a buggy so thought I might be able to return it to standard from the engine number, the
thing is that I just had the engine sort of rebuilt from two engines after running one with no oil, sander288, I'll try the samba but from what I
read here that's an American site isn't it, so it may not relate to us here in Oz.

Hiya donn,
I MIGHT be of some help.
Post up (or zap me) your engine serial number and I'll see if I can turn anything.

Engine number AS242810 Any help would be appreciated, I'm thinking that by getting it back to it's original spec some of the probs might disapear.

That woulda started out as late 74 Lbug 1600 engine
what it is now is anyones guess till you crack it open
Thesamba woulda been useless in this case, it would have told you thats a "replacement" engine cos in the US they had different model engines in 74
there than Aus and Europe

what do u mean a Buggy like a fibreglass shorten chassis ???
As per Joel above the AS engine statrted as a 1600 after 73 for sure
If itsa beach buggy then tehre are no matching numbers as they were built for all sorts of cars and used many different engines etc etc

Yeah, it's a Kalita but as I stated first up I thought there may be some way of matching type of dizy and carb to the engine number, just can't get
my head around why the problems keep coming up as the engine realy runs fine except for the backfiring etc, have checked the suggested problems as
other post but no prize, have taken it back to the mechanic to see if he can solve it though he did seem to be a bit undecided, he has asked me to
drop the original 09 dizy in to him in the morning though I took that off ages ago and replaced it with a vac advance and that solved the major flat
spot at take off.
Rose, got your PM, that will be my next step if this fails, though I have had a couple of real disapointments there.
