Tyre sizes for '73 notch.

First up, apologies if this is a question which is constantly asked. I've had a look around and can't quite find the right info and I figured I'd ask first before forking out money for new wheels.

I want to buy some Empi 914 rims for my '73 Notch. The size is 15x5.5". I've been told that all the offsets of these rims are the same throughout Australia and they'll fit my car. Now, what tyre size should I be getting?

I figured I'd just buy the rims, take them to the tyre place with my car and he'd know. But I was told to find out they tyre size first because they won't know. At the moment I have the original 15x5" rims and a tyre with quite a large profile. When the steering wheel is at full lock, it rubs.

Any help would greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to get the rims, tyres and everything fitted this Saturday.

Unless things changed, the original rims are 15" x 4.5" on Type 3s. I had 6" rims on a 69 Notch with standard offset and the largest width tyres I could run was 185, especially on the rear to prevent rubbing on the guard lip.

I would check the offset...

many VW wheels are offset on the outside ..

which can cause problems....

but 5.5 sounds OK to Me...

depending on the tyre size of course...

tyre people don't know much at all...
if its not listed in their book they won't know...

actually, they usually replace car tyres with the same size that came off them...

or whatever You ask for.... lol

Thanks for that Empi. I know I'd PM'd you about this earlier but for some reason I can't find the PM. I didn't want to bother you again =/
