dual carbs
hello all,
was curious whether dual carbs would give much extra 'push' on a stock twin-port 1300? and if there was much HP difference between a dual
carb'd 1300 and dual carb'd 1600. am considering putting the bigger 86.5mm pistons etc in the 1300 to convert it to 1600. also is there a
large change in fuel economy between dual carbs and a single carb and between a 1300 and 1600 motor?
any advice would be greatly appreciated
sorry if this is just another "help, need more power" question...

i don't know about the advantages of twins on a 1300dp but i would imagine that they would make a noticeable difference. on a 1600 dp a set of
kadrons will make a noticeable difference. (don't forget to price in the dizzy that you need to add (009 or the like if not already fitted) if
you fit twin carbs)
first things first, if you haven't already, a set of extractors are the first add on that i would fit.
going to 85.5 or 87 (1640cc) p&c will also be a good addition in the quest for more zap. if you are taking the heads off to fit the p&c you
may as well check the condition of the seats and guides (plus replace the valves if they haven't been done in a while... for safety's sake),
plus it would be a good time to get a little head work done (funds permitting) which will also give you a good increase in power.
when you add it all up, this would get rather expensive. though if you collect the parts and do it all at once you will be v.happy with the result or
just do a bit at a time and still be happy with each increase.
i hope this has been helpful not confusing or offputting.
from my experiences so far it is such a buzz driving a vw with more than the factory power and the feeling of driving your car for the first time with
the new bits fitted/performance mods done, well still brings a grin to my face.

to fit the 1600 or 1641cc pistons and cylinders ($200 - $300 approx) you need to bore the 1300 heads (about $150) you'll definately notice a
greater power increase than fitting twin carbs to your 1300. this would all depend on your heads and botom end being in good nick
