Computer / USB help

Have just bought a new stereo and want to plug my turntable in but it doesnt have a phono input - only "aux"

No problem - I need a preamp

I also would like to put my vinly onto my computer

No problem - I found this

Now my question
I can use this as a preamp - but I need power.
It gets it power from the USB plug when plugged into the computer

Can I use this to drive the device, when it is not plugged into a computer, so as it is a preamp only

Yeah I dont see a problem with that, as long as the pre-amp doesnt need the pc to make the pre-amp work properly (adjust volume or something), but that last diagram shows the hookup for the preamp without a computer, so gut feeling says it should be ok.
