It's not a factory roof, they were a metal sliding panel after the mid-60s. Looks like a webasto.

It's a nice looking car all the same.

Where did it originate and what spec is it (1600 or 1300, front discs or drums, high-back or low-back seats etc)

Cheers,
Brett

Thats a UK import "big beetle" they were called

the're a normal 1600 super but just had a few things extras like cloth insert seats, woodgrain dash and gearknob, the side stripe, 5.5" ugly sport rims and were only availble in about 3 or 4 metallic colours and the cloth upholstry seats and carpet matched the paint

They can fetch abit more than the regular Lbugs but that aftermarket rag would kill the value abit

Personally I prefer the ragtops.

That is, provided it's a Webasto or similar with the proper slider mechanism and catch. Not something done in a backyard workshop with a hacksaw and held on with press-studs. :(

It's a full import - I reckon the roof is actually factory (although I am certainly no expert) as it has been the same owner since new - she is in her 90's now and looking to sell it.

It looks like one of the parisbeetles ragtops, they're really popular in the UK and have been around forever
Definately not factory though, like that vynil roof overlay, both were accessories at the time and may have been dealer fitted before she bought it

fairly rare..

though beetles without the flat dash don't fetch as much as a super....

it looks great though...

the roof would need support around the sunroof....

lemmeretz wheels ..gt stripes...

it could have a 1300 engine in it... common in the UK..

otherwise its a 1600..

depends on who wants it... for a price... $5000 ??

thanks for comments I have passed on to the owner - I should say I am not buying the car just trying to help someone out. I think thay will take it to a VW show and put a for sale sign on it.

Take it from an avid Lbug nutcase of nearly 20 odd years
I assure you if its as unmolested it appears its a UK edition big beetle.
They had a different stripe to the rest of rest of europe

Where is this car located? I wouldn't mind a look if it's not far away.
