FS - Pobjoy Base 1916 with Kadrons & fresh case NSW
I bought this engine in 2007 intending to rebuild it. The previous owner over-tightened the oil pressure switch and cracked the case. I had a nice low
mileage twin port 1300. I pulled it apart and had Stan Pobjoy check it and machine it so I could rebuild the engine in the 1300 case. But I never got
around to it.
Features include
8 dowel crank
Kadron carbs
Pobjoy deep sump
Fresh 1300 AB case machined for 94 barrels and full-flowed
009 distributor
94mm pistons and barrels
Pobjoy cam which I think revs to 5500 or 6000

Hi, Im interested in it.
Do you know the history of the motor, like receipts and Km's etc ?
Have you verified with Stan that its one that he built (via the engine number) ?
The reason I ask is that he doesn't use the metal inlet manifolds on the Kadrons (they have a smaller ID), cast oil pump covers, and 99% of his
1916's have the VDO temp sender tapped into the front of the case......so i dont really want to buy a copy one.

I've never driven a base 1916 and never dynoed one. Although I really wanted to, that's why I bought this engine. Perhaps Craig has some idea of the
RWHP.
I doubt it is a copy. Even if it is, you still get the same parts combination including a balanced and 8 dowel crank assembly and pobjoy case, 94
pistons, barrels etc. If it doesn't turn out to be a base-spec cam I'll give the buyer a steroid cam.
The appeal of this engine is the extra power and torque and it should be as reliable and low maintenance of a stocker.
This would be great for a daily driver or kombi. Although, Paul Loiocono had one in his blue L bug and was only a second behind Jak and I at Oran Park
south.

Craig correct me if i'm wrong but a Base 1916 has about 75-80rwhp, a bit more with twin plugs?

I was the idiot that used to own this engine and over tightened the sender cracking the case. I had it in KG and it was a good daily driver. No idea
if is was a Stan engine as it was in the car when i got it. but went good. till i broke it. LOL.

the old sender again i would like $2.00 for all the cases ruined by senders and most are the wrong sender vw not tapered all other fords holden toyota
etc. do tighten up taper forces the sides out and crack

Hey hey,
I had a 'base model' Pobjoy 1916 in my '66 Beetle.
The engine was built late 1996. Believe it produced around 100hp @ the wheels.
My little sister and I ran the car @ the 1997 Nationals Drag Day @ Oran Park.
My little sister ran a time of 9.98 over the 1/8.
I did a 10.2.
I would like to think it was her 45 kilo frame that was responsible for the better time, not her superior driving skills! 
An old 'base' Pobjoy 1916, is loads of fun. Plenty of torque and enough power to spin the wheels and break axles & gearboxes!

I called pobjoy a month or two ago and got into a deep discussion about hp and 'dynos' in regards to his motors. He said originally he was quoating
100hp at the wheels but eventually after much scrutiny from various people he says that his engines produce around 70-75hp atw.
That said, he also mentioned that there is no point going by hp figures, but more from how the car feels and the power curve.
Just my two cents- I'm sure it's an awesome motor

He was quoting 100hp because thats what the reading was from the Dyno 22 years ago.I have recently Dynoed a base at 78.8hp......I know of heaps that
have dynoed between 75-85hp.
All the ones that are in the 65hp range tend to have the wrong exhaust/carbs/or are poorly tuned.
A proper base in a stock weight beetle will give you a 15.9 flat /16 sec quarter or a 10.0 1/8th.
They are a great combo, and was designed by Stan to be a low maintenance, everyday motor that gave great performance, good economy and would last the
same length of time as a well maintained stock 1600 motor.
