Colour codes for Australian Type Threes
Hi Guys,
I am looking for colour charts for Australian Type Threes from 1970 until close of production. I have seen charts on places like The Samba, but they
don't appear to refer to Australia. Does anyone have this info, or is it on the site and I have not found it?
Thanks,
Jed

Problem with that is there are not many examples of the color.
I still can't work out what color mine is?

Yes examples of the colours would be great. I noticed the colour of the notch on your signature looks like plum? or maybe its called Plum Crazy? It is
not on that chart. I think that colour was avilable around 71. Maybe the cars with that colour were fully imported????

Colour codes for Australian Type Threes
Hi,
Well firstly my 1970 Fastback I had always thought was Sahara Beige. I want to confirm before I repaint it. I was also looking to the bright turquose
blue and the purple like Vlad's car.
Regards,
Jed

Plum Loco is not a VW colour. It is a Leyland P76 colour, and it is not listed on any VW charts.
Royal Glow is listed on 1971 Australian VW charts.

Went to perrows paint and gave them the two name and also brought in my numberplate light for a example.
yep royal glow is in the old vw catalog they have there. but its much darker in the book? And no my paint has not faded as its the same color
everywhere
throughout all places in the car. The color in the book was like de oxygenated blood rather than purple.

Is the VW catalog they have printed, or is the colour a real paint swatch?
Do they have the formula? Yes, then get them to mix a small batch and see how it compares to your car.

1969 Volkswagen Color Chart
vlad01,
Found this old Volkswagen Type 3 Color Chart for 1969.
Color : Royal Red, L30A Rouge Royal, looks to red for your color...VW Code 17, 1969 - '70
The VW color of your car is called Colorado Metallic L97D, VW Code 81, 1970 - '72
1973 the color was changed to a lighter color called Pop Lilac.
All this info. came from the Ditzler PPG Volkswagen Paint Color Charts.
Must have been a Rare available color, haven't seen it on another Type 3.

You are right it is - ROYAL GLOW.
It is listed as a 1971 VW colour Shade # 13244 in a 1980 Dulux Car Colour Directory.
Any good painter should be able to make up the correct colour based on the above shade #
I also saw a paint chip for Royal Glow to confirm the same information
The same Shade number ( 13244) is also listed in the 1973 Datsun colour range in the same,
Back in early days there was a group of paints called "Ford Fleet" and Royal Glow was also used there but I dont have the Form Fleet colour code.

Hi Vlad,
My 1970 Fastback, which I think is Sahara Beige, had matching beading. I still have it, but it is old and faded. I am going to try to refurbish it
(the beading). I was curious to see if you car had matching beading, as that would look pretty cool.
Regards,
Jed

My car has a purple and black scheme.
Black interior (apart from the head lining) black front boot lining and black beading.
the rear boot is beige though, i think its coz they never made black rear boot linings? I could be wrong though.
