Looks like another SHONK deal

Got this in my home Email today looks like another shonk deal out of nairbi kenya these tend to POP up every few months i like the bits about when we get your bank account details

Keep your eyes open for this.

"Racers Edge" <racersedge@nbi.ispkenya.com>

Dear _______

Please do forward me with your contact details esp. fax number, email, mobile number and landline number.

I write on behalf of racers edge, we would like to send out to you a business proposal.

In brief i would like to mention a few things, we are an entity that is closley linked to a number of auto workshops here in nairbi kenya ( some as family ties and others belonging to close friends)( diastar autocare ctr, master fit body techniq, parklane motors and many more) , currently we have two personal vw beetles that are in need of full restoration, one of them is a 1600 1972 model and the other a 1970 beetle 1200 deluxe.

We are in need of the whole range of parts both performance and restoration materials. We also do a lot of imporatation of spare parts and other accessories from
australia and japan.

We do have a freight agent as well based in sydney that will take care of all once the goods are in their possesion. They or the aus customs ( phone 1300 363 263) would be able to help you out in how to deliver the goods to freight company GST free. With regards to payment i can do a directtranfer of the funds once i get the bank details and a quotation from your side. Some of the firms that we deal with include rocket ind,
turbosmart and donnellans tyres.

I shall send out all details in the formal fax copy that i will send out to you soon.

Once the vehicles are restored we hope to attract a whole lot of more vw's in need of similar attention, thus this posses a good market for noth your firms products and racers edge as well.

looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Nayen

What makes you think its shonky?

If I was wanting to buy parts from you, I'd be asking for the same details. The only thing there that would make me suspicious is the fact that they asked for you email, when you recieved it via email. Perhaps they found the webpage and just clicked the link to contact you?

Yes, it's a common scam. Your local police should be able to give you some info on this type of scam. Looking up the Ph No for Aussie Customs is a nice touch, isn't it?

Trust me,almost anything you get in MAIL or EMAIL is a SCAM,the world is full of suckers thats why theres so many scam artists. That Nigeria scam has taken millions from dumb aussies lookin for a fast buck. And i daresay this Kenya scam will take a few bucks too.But on a brighter note ive noticed most of the scams are asking you to help in something illegal therefore when they get taken its fully deserved:thumb

No, that wouldn't work - what they do is make a payment greater than what is supposedly required, then ask you for the excess amount. They then cancel the original deposit and keep the amount you sent them.

All scammers should get a real job.

I agree though, some people let their defences drop and get done.

It doesn't cost anything to be sceptical first.

I get some strange looks from parts places sometimes when I say to them "Are you sure that is the part I need?" They sometime give me that "We know what we are talking about"

Still a few times I catch them out, and they know they have to fix it up quicker and better as they cannot blame the consumer who was unsure!

Question everything I say. :D
