Spool Problems
Has anyone else had a problem with aluminium spools???? After getting an oilk leak at Warwick,i pulled the box out lastnight only to find that the
spool was almost about to break. It is cracked were the axle and the fulcrom plates go in. This was a brand new spool and did eleven passes at
Warwick. The last one did exactly the same thing in the same spot. Any thoughts on what might be causing this????

hey dude,
sounds like the car is squating too far.
When the axle gets too much angle
the fulcrum plates bind and try to break off the end of the spool,
prob on the drivers side?
Both sides can bind if the car squats too far,
but drivers side will squat more.
another option:

After the first time it broke i put 28mm torsion bars in thinking that was the problem. Wasn't squating very much at all??

Sounds like something in there is binding,
to cause the breakages you have had.
Perhaps the end of the axle is now bent?
The photos and videos from Warwick should be able to tell you if it is too low at launch.
Did Matt get any shots of your car from the rear?
I put zip ties on my shock shaft and mine only squats about 30mm.

got an axel tube from another car. When we measured then up, mine was 4mm longer. I figured that was pulling the axel out of the spool 4mm. nearly got
the car ready to run again, with some time off over chrissy im hoping to get to the test and tune at WSID in jan. Ill find out if that was the problem
then.

See you at the track on the 22nd January - I'm having a play and trying some secret stuff with the beetle prior to the new Sydney Raceway (WSID)
season and Portland. Let me know if you want me to bring anything that may help you - H
