Engine Number

Hi newbie here to VW's and the forum. I have just picked up a beetle and am trying to figure out the year and engine size. The engine number is H1086480 and chassis number is 196274312. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

You've got a 66 beetle and what started out a 1500 engine from 69-70 but could be anything by now but most likely a 1600

Thanks for that. Anything 1500 and above is good for what I want. The 1300 badge on the deck lid was confusing the hell out of me.

The Aussie '66 and '67 models came with a 1300 motor when new - hence the badge.

But being at least 43 years of age now, previous owners could have put anything in them. Someone has bolted a 1500 into yours - these came with the '68-'70 Beetles originally.
